    New Windscreen

My windscreen took a stone and cracked right in the drivers line of site on the way back from SA to VIC last weekend. Fortunately I have windscreen cover in my insurance, but I'm obliged to go via O'Brien's.

I'm very wary and cautious about having the windscreen replaced having read stories in the past of leaks, creaks, auto wiper issues etc when the factory screen is replaced.

I wanted to check people's experience with O'Briens before I hand the car over (I've never used them), and are there any things I need to make sure O'Briens do to try and ensure I don't have any ongoing issues as I'm sure they don't get a RR in that frequently?

    TIA

Read my experiences here (start at page 2): fullfatrr.com - View topic - Windscreen Replacement

There's every likelihood the screen will be for a later model, e.g., your 2010, and the rain sensor light sensing window will line up with the hole in the screen mask. Mine didn't.

If they can't supply a screen to match, perhaps you can push for a genuine screen.

I had mine replaced with a non heated screen by the local mobile guy here in town. $280 fitted, no leaks, no whistling. Screen had a cut out for the auto wipers but I never got around to refitting that as I found the intermittent wipers better to use.

my experience with OB was there mobile service on my old D1, they sent some prima donna out who whinged the whole time, made lots of "all too hard basket groaning grunts" said thy could no guarantee the job etc etc and then he got another helper to come to assist , the next day it rained and it leaked between the laminated layers of the glass! and I took it to their shop and had them replace it completely again. So wasn't happy. When I bought my Rangie I asked my insurer Shannons about their free replacement windscreen per year thing and stressed the importance of the expensive windscreen and about troubles with aftermarket screens, and was told that they replace it with what the vehicle has fitted regardless of cost. I have never had a claim on one though

    Thanks All,

O'Briens have called and they are having to ship the windscreen from the warehouse in Sydney - so it will be another week.

Due to all the features of the screen and the complexity they asked me to take it to the shop where their best fitters are; and they don't believe it will be Chinese due to the features and cost of the screen!

This I found out and have heard also, so why have the mobile guys ? When I initially rang the shop to make a booking they only offered the mobile guys.

    Ha!

I had to take mine to O'Brien's, too.

The windscreen has been replaced, and the new one is Pilkington thankfully.
