    Clacking noise from dash area

My 2003 Diesel L322 has started making a strange and loud clack, clack, clack, clack ........from dashboard area (around centre I think) each time I open the door after car has sat for an hour or two.
Same thing happens if car locked or not.
Happens also when I open tailgate.
May happen with all doors but yet to determine that.
The noise goes on for 10 to 15 seconds. Car starts and operates just fine but why the noise??????
I ran my Faultmate Diagnostic tool today and the closest clue I got was from the "ANTI-THEFT" readings.

    What I got was:
    1. : Key with user slot ID3 (Store Slot 2) Random Tolerance Increased
    2. : Internal EWS 3D ECU Problem OXF
3.: Key with user slot ID1 (Store Slot 0) Random Tolerance Increased

I cannot determine just what those faults mean but will post on the Blackbox Solutions (Faultmate) forum and see what info I might get.
Nothing else from any area of diagnostics yielded a clue.
Right now I am thinking this is not going to be a simple fix but will gratefully accept any knowledge & experiences from other owners.

when you open the door the HEVAC system starts up to purge air etc. it could be one of the blend motors playing up.

OK; Roverlord it seems that you have identified the sound.

Hi mate, just remove the side panel it is held by 1 x torx screw under footwell aea and by 3 plastic clips at the woodgrain trim end, pull gently to release.

i just removed the blend motor from the hole and then refitted it and it reset itself and noise went.
    Regards,
    Mario
Ps They just clip in from memory with the tab, they look like these.

    Which side trim

Roverlord: Will I be correct if I assume that trim is left hand side of footwell?

I see I have a PM from you but there must be some computer setting preventing me from opening it so I have no idea of PM content.
Thanks for helping out with this one.
I am assuming that there is more than one blend motor so do I disconnect and refit all?

Hi Sitting in the drivers seat, the trim that your left leg with touch. You will know which which motor it is if you have the cover off then quickly when it starts doing it put your finger on it, you feel it or hear the one that's doing it..
PS. I don't know about the PM as I didn't send one.
