I haven't found one for a D3/that looks all that factory. Most seem to be a double din unit in an aftermarket shroud, instead of the made to fit one you have installed.

I have seen the android powered nav screens - I just want one that flips down so you can still use the storage

Some of the android units i'm looking at are quite thin at the back and you could potentially make them flip open to use the space behind for sunnies etc.

mine only has preset colours so I am stuck with it. I could probably dim the green with a rheostat in the light wire, but that means pulling the dash apart again which I do find the inclination to do at the moment.

    This might work

I was looking at upgrading my radio and found this. It seems to fit a wide range of head units. From the UK.

That one will only help if the car doesn't have factory satnav, and doesn't have the DSP amplifier.

Here's some pics of mine, passengers frequently ask if it's a factory unit. I assume it's because of the buttons, they're a similar size and font to others on the dash. Unit can access my 1 terabyte 2.5" hard drive in the glovebox with all my music on it, and happily runs Oziexplorer. I tether it to my phone and have a bunch of music streaming apps on it, ABC Listen, TuneIn etc. although it can run a 3g/4g dongle if I wish. Very happy with it. I had the basic MID audio unit so it was just plug and play, didn't have to run the big cable to the rear. Had to grind away a fair bit of plastic from the old housing, it fits well now. Wow there are a lot of screws holding the dash in...

The unit has been superseded now, here's the latest version- seems to be the same form factor:

    G'day Strangerover,
What is that little unit that is hidden in behind the steering wheel on the first picture.
That unit looks good, as long as it does the job you want then all good.

    Cheers

That's my TPMS (Tyre pressure monitoring system). Has internal sensors in the wheels, an alarm goes off if pressure deviates from my preset pressure too much. Monitors tyre temp too. Had them fitted with my last set of tyres, required because I'd driven with a flat on a dirt road for 6-7 kms without realising & damaged the sidewall. A win for the comfy suspension, not so good for the tyre. Didn't want it to happen again, did my research & this was the best way to go. I looked at ones that ran under Android, they weren't very good. A separate screen was a much better idea. A new set of AA batteries every year is all it needs. It's very much like this one, though it cost me considerably less:

Yes I'm happy with it, although the later versions of Android on the newer models look much prettier. Doesn't matter, still runs everything I need. I also have an OBD-11 bluetooth transmitter that I monitor with the Torque app, all sorts of interesting realtime data can be displayed on the screen- turbo pressure, engine temp, actual speed as detected by GPS, compass heading etc. etc. That's the great thing about these units, you can run whatever app suits you.

I've looked at updating to a newer unit, there are now faster units with 9" screens available that will fit our vehicles, they don't have hardware buttons at all- just basically a tablet and touchscreen interface. I've decided I prefer the buttons, they're always there when you need them and they suit the look of the vehicle.

I must admit that I prefer the buttons too, mine is a little different to your but still an Android one.
