    L322 E-Gremlins again.

I'm nearly insane at this stage. I've recently changed the alternator in my L322 (Thanks Mario for your help and advice) and was enjoying that brief period where there were no dash lights, no error codes, and generally no problems. Then, last Sunday, the Monster and I were running Mum home in the Rangie when it started carrying on a treat.

When we were in I started it and had the hazard lights come on of their own accord. Then we noticed that the cabin courtesy light wouldn't go out. At one stage the transmission also hesitated where it would have usually changed back a gear.

At Mums I switched the engine off, waited a few minutes, and then restarted it and all seemed to return to normal. The Monster and I drove home and parked the Rangie up in the shed and turned in for the night.

Next afternoon I went to drive into town and noticed that nothing happened when I opened the door. No dash screen and no electronics fan etc. Zero power. I haven't yet had a chance to put a multimeter on it but I'm pretty sure that battery is dead. (Two years old but has suffered a failing alternator)

I'll do the usual trouble shooting when I get a chance (fuses, battery connections, alternator wires, etc). Has anyone had similar gremlins to these in their L322 before?

By the way, there wasn't one fault code or unexpected dash light appear while all of this was happening.

The other day my old battery did not have enough volts to crank, but when I tried to turn the key, my headlights flashed for about a second then some dash sounds then all was dead.
Maybe try a donor battery and see if that fixes it?

Last time I could not start her due to too low battery voltage I had a mate come around with one of those Lithium battery for emergency jump starting. We connected it to the jumper plug on the fire wall and the earth bolt you are supposed to use when jump starting and it would not crank either, until I had a fully charged battery again.
Re : No fault messages on dash, but maybe if you plugged in a diagnostics to the ODB, there may be heaps of low battery voltage caused codes.

    Thumbs up

Thanks Mario. I'll keep that in mind. I have the jump starter on charge now to see if it will help tomorrow. I won't be too disappointed if it doesn't.

One thing I'm not sure of, I can't say whether the cabin light had gone out by the time I closed the shed after we'd parked it up for the night. There is a chance, given the gremlins present earlier, that the cabin light may have stayed on all night and drained the battery. I'd love to know what started the gremlins lurking in the first place though. Chances are that a new battery would be a good investment.

There’s a chance the battery is on the way out. Especially if the alternator has gone. It may have helped take the battery out.

The final stage resistor is another know cause of battery drain.
