    Here’s another at Grays. But it seems to be a private import vehicle with a 2014 compliance plate.

Seems like a lot of car for the dollars.. very happy with it. Driving away from the depot after picking it up made me think I had got a lemon - error lights all over the dash like a Christmas tree... but the battery was totally dead and a new one fixed all that

    Seems like a great motor the 3.6l.. i seem to be average a bit under 11l/100k... my sister in law's 200 series uses a lot more juice.. fitting electric brakes and clearview mirrors to it so I can tow my caravan - hoping it will be a good rig for that so I can sell my BT-50 twincab.

    The 3.6 is a very under rated motor. And it’s a lot of car for the money.

    But I would recommend:
    • doing a trans flush ASAP;
    • changing oil and all filters straight up, including with LiquiMoly oil flush;
    • putting some Revive induction cleaner through it;
    • cleaning the MAP sensors, after the Revive treatment, look at how clean the throttle body is while you’re there;
    • replace top induction hoses with silicone hoses (Mario - Roverlord off road spares sells them)
    • start saving up for front and rear air spring/strut replacements, and replace them soon unless you know they have already been done.

    I assume you will use this for some NT touring. So you want to ensure it’s reliable as possible. The air struts will be well past their life if original.

    Did myself on w/e Well not a proper flush.. couldn't find anyone in Darwin to do it! But did oil change and pan/filter. Will do another change in a couple of weeks so I guess I would've replaced most of the oil.

    • changing oil and all filters straight up, including with LiquiMoly oil flush;

    Planning on doing a full oil change soon so will look into this flush thanks.

    • putting some Revive induction cleaner through it;
    • cleaning the MAP sensors, after the Revive treatment, look at how clean the throttle body is while you’re there;

    Will look into these also thanks.

    I actually got a split in one of the intercooler hoses a few days after picking it up - wondered why there was lots of black smoke and less power - taped up now but waiting on new hoses. Just went original not silicon but hopefully ok - these are the 2 intercooler hoses at the top front - are they these induction hoses you mention?

    • start saving up for front and rear air spring/strut replacements, and replace them soon unless you know they have already been done.

    Cheers mate - is the only option to go original with these?

    Yes induction/intercooler hoses.

    Re struts, I went with OEM Delphi units.

    The RRS rears might also need looking at.

    Thinking of a TVD8 for my son?

    Hi , I am wondering if there is a sweat spot year for the TDV8 ? Prices seem very good around the 2008 model year but am thinking is there a better year without going overboard in cost.

    I am thinking his max price is around $26k

    With all the information about these vehicles and quite a bit to be aware of (and years to avoid) perhaps a comprehensive list is in order as a sticky.

    Cheers

    Prices Tumbling - Cheapest tdv8 L322 I’ve seen

    It depends on what’s important to a prospective 3.6 owner.

    The MY07 was the first of the 3.6 L322 (started making them at end of 2006). These had one or two styling left overs of the previous year and maybe a few more problems compared to later later years.

    The MY08/09 (if there is a 09 edition) is a sweet spot for the 3.6 L322 IMHO, but I’m biased as I own one. I like the 3.6 as:
    - it’s arguably simpler than the next model;
    - it’s the last of the non TFT instrument panel (so simpler);
    - it has Brembo brakes (dropped on next model);
    - is likely to be serviced at lower km intervals (next model nearly doubled the km btw servicing);
    - I’m pretty sure these are a Euro 4 so probably easier to disable the EGR and do other ECU mods. Maybe all 3.6s are the same. Not sure.
    - I think more of the later MY10 3.6s had variable rear shocks. These don’t seem to cope that well with corrugated roads. Also there is a unique part for left and right rear shock. On the non variable type the rear left and right shock is the same so only one spare potentially.

    As for the L320 tdv8, I think the MY10 made significant improvement to styling. Not sure what other changes were made.
