    Oils ain’t oils?

I had to buy another 20l drum of oil for the L322 3.6 yesterday and have used Castrol Edge Professional C5 and magnatec C5 preciously.
The Castrol Netlube page now recommends Edge A3/B4.
Any ideas why the grades have changed on the Castrol webpage?
I’ve bought the drum but scared it’s not up to the specs of C5 for the motor.

I buy the Edge B3/B4, but I have the bimmer td6 donk in it.

I think yours needs a different oil because of the dpf fitted to your donk.

Someone will be along soon to tell you the correct oil you should be using.

    cheers

    Thanks Disco Gazza,
Yeah I’m not sure if the oil needs to be different for the motor itself.
I’m pretty sure my car doesn’t have a dpf.

No DPF 's on Australian L322's with either the Td6, 3.6 TdV8 or 4.4TdV8: we were very lucky

C1/C5 isn't as good for the engines as A5/B5 but necessary if a DPF is fitted. I use Magnatec Prof A5 in my 4.4 TDV8 because LR recommend A1/B1 which has been superseded by A5/B5.

These are the required engine oil specs for the 3.6 tdv8.

    WSS MCC913 B, WSS-M2C 934-B, 921-A.

Have a look on there site to see if it matches.

Their spec sheet doesn’t mention those types of specs.

The oils recommended for the RR 3.6 tdv8 (2007-2011) by castrol’s website are interesting in that they recommend the following two magnatec products that meet the Ford specs I stated previously:
    - stop start 5w30A5; and
    - 5w30 A5.

But for the later facelift 3.6 RR (2010-11), the site also recommends the Edge 5w30 A3/B4. But this oil doesn’t mention the Ford specs. This is interesting as I thought these were the same motor as the pre-facelift RR.

So I don’t know but Castrol think it’s ok.

And it used to be A5 only previously.
