Buying Advice
Hey everyone,
I'm after some general advice I have done a lot of research into these cars, its pretty much all I've been doing this week.
I'm thinking about going to look at a 2003 L322 with the M62 engine.
It's done 340,000 kms but I've been told by the seller they have reciepts for an engine overhaul and a gearbox rebuild in the last couple 1000kms as well as having all new tyres battery starter motor etc.
So in theory the high kms shouldn't matter but I'm still a little bit hesitant.
General condition wise seems pretty good no dents or scratches that stand out the interior shows some signs of the high kms but nothing that would put me off.
Would you guys be giving it a wide berth or is there life in the old girl yet?
It's about a 3 hour drive from me. It is listed for a good price though.
Thanks

All the ancillary fitments aka starter motor, alternator etc will still have 340K under their belt as well as the rest of the drive train. I'd be wary of it but.......it may go for a long time without issue or it may need attention sooner rather than later.
I am a conservative car buyer so if it is a weekend play car then it may be worth the risk but if going to be the main stay family/work car then I think it is a huge gamble.
From what I see on the net ads there are plenty of much lower km L322 Rangies on offer. Being a slow, unpopular seller I reckon there would be plenty of room to negotiate a low - bargain? - price with the seller.
Good luck with what ever you do.

If you can afford a bit of an upgrade and the fuel depending how you use your right foot ? There are some great early model Super Charged cars around on Gumtree and Carsales!!!
These cars offer nearly all the regular options as standard equipment, and are great fun to drive

Mechanically, some big ticket items have been done. But:
- it depends on how well the trans was done whether it will last (the GM trans is a known weak link);
- the motor shouldn’t need a rebuild at those km if properly serviced. So some alarm bell ringing there.
Generally they are a good solid well designed vehicle and IMHO better than any other Land Rover vehicle of that era for general use. I test drove one and was very impressed coming from a 1989 110. As they should be as they would have cost lots more than other Land Rover product of that year.
But along with previous parts that could be coming up for repair/replacement you should include front EAS struts (May be already replaced), EAS compressor, front prop shaft unless recall mod done, electronic steering column, transfer box, and steering rack.
Post 2006 cars had improved motors, electrics, improved transmissions and transfer boxes. Post 2009 had further improvements to electrics.
As Laurie suggested the post 2006 Jag v8 petrols are often very reasonably priced and speced up more than the diesels.
L322 tdv8 poverty pack - wow
