After having a 1 inch caster bar snap on a car after a poly bush was fitted by mechanics at a suspension joint. I will never put my family's life in danger again. i snapped behind the nut behind the bush. Ford said they have never seen a solid rod snap so easy.Quote:

The range of motion on these vehicles is quite complex, a combination of twist and rotation. Even the act of lowering to get out shifts this bush significantly. (Hence I always lower whilst still rolling into a parking space rather than stop then lower).
The transmitted forces through a more rigid bush places quite a bit of stress in this area and besides a notable ride quality decrease (NVH transmission) it is now showing fracturing failure of the arms at the bush.

The bush looks OK from a passing glance although that trip was purely on-road. I didn't get to order a new pair to fit before the rougher trip so the poly will stay in the left side for a while yet.
Fitted Lemforder bushes all around on my L322 quite some years ago - they are still going strong I believe with the new owner of the vehicle. Is there some damage somewhere that’s causing them to chew out?
My guess is that the daily significant articulation on my driveway is the cause although with the left one a lot worse than the right, the road edge could be contributing. I use a 30mm lift on my rough 2km driveway to provide more bump-stop clearance so the suspension is moving considerably more than for on-road driving.
I wonder if the cheapest bushes would deteriorate any faster but I'm not game to try.

What did you end up using for your radial arm bush replacement ; and how are they going ?

I fitted another set of Lemforder bushes.
I had occasion to fit a non-genuine front arm for its ball joint, being the only one available at short notice. When subsequently checking for the source of another rattle I thought that the cheap bush in that arm had already chopped-out, but not so, it was only badly compressing when moving the steering left & right due to the rubber being very soft. Its a good example of the poor quality of a non-genuine bush, which I intend swapping for the one from the removed arm. The rattle was caused by a slightly loose inner tie-rod joint.
