    LR OE Parts Warranty

I was reading about replacement parts on Ffrr and came across this post by one of the resident Tech Guys !!!

    Cam-Tech-Craig

"I personally ALWAYS use genuine parts and for a simple reason... When you buy any JLR parts, get the parts dealer put your VIN or reg no on the receipt. Keep your receipt and if that part fails in the next year, call your local main dealer and they will change them for free including labour!"

I might have been living in the dark, but I have never heard of this in Australia !

never heard of this one. So the home DYi mechanic buys the part, fits it and then the Land Rover main Dealer will reinstall a replacement part?
I rang Land Rover, and IF THE PART IS FITTED BY LAND ROVER DEALERSHIP THEN LABOUR IS FREE, Not FOR DYI OR INDEPENDENT WORKSHOPS

As well for those that buy their parts from overseas have found out that faulty parts are required to be returned for inspection at buyers expense for warranty claims.

Mario that's what I believed the situation was , that's why the above quote made me second guess my thoughts and ask for replies.

Craig is that correct ? or a misquote ?

No sir, its something JLR have done for years... We often have batteries fail for example and as many of our customers are spread out all over the UK, they simply take their car to their local main agent, the main agent contacts us for the purchase/sales receipt then changes the customers battery for free (including labour)...

The secret is to ask your JLR parts supplier to put either your reg or VIN on the receipt. This they usually expect as a minimum to prove you purchased the part for that car... Not your brothers etc etc!

    Interesting

    Your right Tombie !!!

JLR's Australian Customer Service is at best ad-hoc and at it's worst the bottom of car companies for service. Having experienced it with my D2 Td5 oil in loom problems and fuel return line, they didn't want to know about it. As Drivesafe has said he got better replies from the UK than Sydney
I was chasing some info on a particular colour combination for a 2011 TdV8, and asked how many had been sold in Australia. The reply was "we don't have that information" really you know what you have sold ??? I gave up on them at that point.

The parts must be fitted by a qualified mech at a registered workshop. VW is the same, I've claimed on an injector harness for the Golf few years ago, no arguments.

Problem for LR parts, is to buy the genuine parts here vs buying in from the UK is the price difference will allow you to replace the part twice and still be miles ahead.

Replaced my front left half shaft a month ago. Genuine part. Fitted by Indy. Has split the outer boot at the clamp. Clearly a manufacturing fault. Indy took a look, sighed, and told me that he wishes that I'd sourced the Repco part instead. Would have got a replacement part straight away and no worries. Now he's having a battle with JLR and may just wear the cost of a new boot and labor to fix it... crazy.

I can't say I have had a problem claimin a warranty on a genuine part, as long as the paper work is fully and correctly filled out. I have had only 3 warranty claims on genuine parts. suppose it depends on the Dealership and the Rapport you have with the parts guy at the dealership.
