    Transfer case motor

The Hi-Lo speed change motor had not been used for quite some time then the last couple of times it would stick in Neutral.
I removed the motor and dismantled it for inspection before I run to the cost of a new one.
Cleaned the commutator, brushes still good.
Gear train looks good, re-assembled and re-fitted.
Now transfer box is in neutral again so car not going anywhere!
That is ok as not urgent and I will get new assembly unless there are words of wisdom out there.

When fitting the motor/gearbox assembly one needs to align the master spline.
It seems to be difficult to align this except by removing the armature cover and turning from there but I do not want to start disassembling a new unit.
Advice on how to get alignment done (if needed) will be greatly appreciated as will any and all learning about this speed change

    Hi Uteman
    Happy New Year !

    I hope these video's are a help
    Test:
    YouTube
    Fit:
    YouTube

You should be able to set it in high range and drive it by sticking a spare 5A fuse in position 37 Main Fuse Box and then taking it out again to see if you can reset the shift motor. Fit fuse in Pos:37, Auto in neutral switch ignition on then switch off, remove fuse. Switch ignition back on and select high and low about 3 times cycling the selector switch If you can drive vehicle then cycle hi/lo switch 3 times above 10km/h

    G'day,
Happy New Year, had the same problem with mine. Turned out to be the encoder in the shift motor that went bung(ggggrrrrrrr) and you can't buy just the encoder. Now the problem is, new or second hand. TR Spares SA will offer you a second hand one for around $699 no guarantees on how long it will last. TR Spares NSW will sell you a new one $1055. Knowledge is power, so back to you blue leader. Walked down this path just before Christmas.
With the spline align watch the videos, I marked the position of the key on the new motor with a sharpy and the used pins 1 & 2 to rotate the shaft until it was close (3-4mm either side) fit it in and tighten the 3 bolts.
Then fuse 37 in ignition on fuse out and so on.
    Hope this helps.
Once the new one was fitted I now engage low range at the gate coming home and disengage when leaving. Mind you, driveway is 400m long. Point is if you don't use it, you lose it.
    Cheers

After moving to Tassie last year, I dont have the driveway(or play area) of a 1 1/2 acre property to
    engage/disengage my hi/lo.
So what I do now is when I pull into my driveway, I select low and then let it idle up to and into my garage.
I know I'm not supposed to use it on solid driveways(so the book says), but as I'm only idling up/down the
driveway I cant see it being a problem + I'm making sure that I dont lose that function.

There is also a section of dirt road area near my local bunnings that I always use as a place for my dogs to have a
walk/pee/poop where I engage low so all is not lost.
