L322 tow tongue and electrics

We were in the same boat when we purchased the L322. The queried the dealer and he had a Jeep tongue out the back which is the same and threw that in as well. We don't often use it for towing but during the fires we loaded the car up with our worldy possessions that we didn't want to lose and hooked up the camper trailer and parked it down at the fire station for a weeks. We have a black and white round plug as well. We towed it down during the day and after the threat had passed a few weeks later we bought it back home one night after training. However with he headlights on it would apply the trailer brakes. my wife ended up driving almost a kilometre with this being the end result.

almost burnt it to the ground which ironically was the kind of thing we were trying to avoid. I haven't bothered rewiring as it works fine with the other trailer with no brakes and we don't use the L322 as the tow vehicle for the camper.

I had the same thing happen but it was during the day. I had the lights set on automatic and they came on going through an underpass and the brakes on the trailer locked on. I had no idea at the time what had caused it so I pulled the plug on the trailer apart and disconnected the brake circuit. Its definitely no fun at all having trailer brakes lock on in traffic.

It wasn't until a bit later that I read a post on fullfatrr in the UK and realised what had caused it. In the UK pin 5 in the 7 pin round is used for one side of the parking lights (as in they can control each side separately) while we use this pin to control the trailer brakes. Apparently this is supposed to be changed at the dealer before delivery but it often isn't. So when adding a brake controller this needs to be checked and in the wiring in the spare tyre well you twin the two parking light circuits together and then can run the brake controller to pin 5 the way we do it here.
