The iBus app is a powerful piece. I installed a 7" unit in my 2004 TD6 about 4 years ago (before the 10" screens came along) had the iBus app doing all cool things but user beware, it is possible to cause problems as the app is one of the few aftermarket systems that puts messages on the network as apposed to just reading from the network. And being an Andriod free for all, quality can't be guaranteed. When you are making changes with something like IID Tool or NavCoder it is obvious that you're in an environment where it could go wrong - however iBus app makes it feel like a well sorted factory interface.

I sold the car and off it went. Couple weeks later I get a call from the new owner wanting some advice - he's quite a way from home and the car won't start. After a few questions about what's going on, he mentions he was just playing around with all the settings in "the screen" and the car hasn't started since - "not tech savy, I don't really understand all this" . More specifically - it took me a few minutes to realise he was playing with the iBus app. Told him to go into the base Andriod settings and disable iBus app. Car started immediately. Enable iBus app again, car won't start. Be interesting if the kids got in there while you weren't looking....

Wonder how that would have gone at the dealers - I also wondered if there would have been a fault code on the immobiliser that would point to it - if there wasn't, I'm pretty sure there would be alot of head scratching.

Thanks Harlie. I hadn’t heard of this app. I suppose it will work with my Android tablet. I shall have to investigate more, e.g., how does one physically connect to the tablet. I assume the USB charging port will also connect to the I-bus via my Relser interface.

Edit: just read the FAQ and it works with the Resler interface. A problem is that the Resler is connected behind the LH side panel in the rear load space.

I found I needed to buy a USB-A female to Micro B USB male OTG (On The Go) cable to connect the Resler interface to the Android tablet.

I'm not sure I have much use for it as my I-BUS connection is on the rear compartment (I previously used it with Navcoder).

interface iBus Can bus- from BMW to Denso

2002-2004 is the BMW system, i-Bus for everything
2005-2006 is the Gen1 Denso with gateway module for MOST security, head unit is under the screen, MOST but with i-Bus for SWC
2007-2009 is the Gen1 Denso with the instrument cluster for MOST security, head unit is under the screen, MOST but with i-Bus for SWC
2010-2012 is the VN Denso with no MOST security, the head unit in the passenger footwell, with LIN-Bus for SWC

The BMW system has quadlock connectors, the Denso has different connectors at the head unit.

The Android unit I put in this 2003 did not come with any MOST connections. You will need a separate MOST-AUX box to run the factory amp (and nothing else on the MOST network; TV, Phone, Rear Seat Entertainment, etc will work).
You would also need to customise the wiring harness because it only comes with Quadlock, will not connect to the factory wiring in a 2005MY-onward.

For the i-Bus App you need to buy a Resler USB interface, it's not built in to the head unit. You can get those from the i-bus app shop where you buy the app itself.
I did swap on my 2003 RR the whole infotanment system, alla the components and wiring taken by a 2005 one, now have to try to start the system, but the display say on with Land Rove logo.
I've found am interface that should consent the comunication from MOST to BMW, I think iBus Can Bus.
