G'day All,
Just thought I would update you all on some new mods to the Rangie;
Clearview style mirrors,
I purchased some Prado Clearview look alike mirrors from Ebay, $189pr new.
I dismantled them, and removed the aluminium door bracket and cut the bracket from the backing, backing was discarded.
Removed the door card from the Rangie and then the side mirror, I then cut the mirror from the bracket, discarded the mirror (not really).
I have a small milling machine and milled the original Rangie Housing to accept the bigger mirror brackets with a tight fit. Had them welded, replaced on the vehicle, a little filler, coat of paint and re installed.
Same again for the other side. Wallah, good mirrors for towing. These have the heated mirrors, indicators and LED Eagle Eye puddle lights which I still need to modify to get working.
Discreet winch mount;
I purchased the winch mount, removed the grille and front bumper plastic. No need to remove the bumper steel support.
Fitted the discreet winch mount with winch, modified the under bumper plastic to fit. Replaced modified bumper and grille.
Sounds simple but it took a little longer than that. I only did small cuts at a time to alleviate mistakes, measure twice cut once. Power cable needed to be lengthened but that would depend on the winch you purchased. My winch has 2 remotes and a hand piece. If you look on the left side of the grille, beside the Sand Flag Mount you will see the winch cable mount plug.
If you have some questions please feel free to ask.
Cheers
Wow, very impressive! Where did you get the winch mount from? Do you think it would fit a 5.0SC ? I'm aware of the front axle weight restrictions, but my one regret when I bought my car was that I didn't investigate the winch situation beforehand. I went for the SC specifically since I wanted the rear diff-lock hoping that if I add a winch it will be a very nice off-road package.
G'day, the winch is an I Max 13000 lbs from Ebay. Most of my recovery gear is from Ebay, seems if I have something then I'll never use it. So, on that system as long as I have it I won't need it. If I do use it and it breaks then I get a good one. Same principle for my trax.
