    Tow Mirrors RedArc tow pro

    Hi All,

I’ve ordered a new caravan from Jayco that’s a few month away before delivery, just starting to get the car setup.

What brand of tow mirrors have people been using and would you recommend them.

From a bit of research it appears as though the RedArc tow pro is the way to go. Just wondering if anybody has an installation guide for the L322.... or at least where you have put the dial

    thanks

    Darren

    G'day Darren.
I made my own Clearview style mirrors and they work just great, I have put my Brake controller on the dash panel between the steering wheel and the drivers door just below the air vent panel. I don't like to mess with brakes so had the local sparky do it.

    Cheers

the redarc towpro has a remote control so it makes install a lot easier.

The brake light switch on the pedal is NOT 12v, so unlike other cars the sense wire cannot be picked up at the pedal - it must be picked up from the lights. Either from the LCM (near the drivers right foot) or what I did was mount everything in the back.

The box is mounted above the rear fuse box (in the boot). power (black wire into controller) comes from the fuse box, brake sense wire (red wire into controller) is hooked onto the brake light wire (red wire) coming out of the trailer light controller (harness from trailer light controller to trailer plug). Then you need to extend the box to control wire with some cat5 or similar 8 core to reach the front.

Remember, if you haven't already done the trailer light wiring mod, you need to do that too (factory had 2 tail light circuits (L & R) going to the trailer plug (brown pin 5 and black pin 7). From the trailer light controller you need to cut the brown wire. join the brown wire from the controller to the black (both tail lights now go to pin 7 on black) AND join the blue wire from the brake controller to brown going to the plug pin 5.

Advantages of locating the main box in the rear is the blue wire to the trailer will have some decent current on it when you need it, it's a short run.

Then, run a nice size wire with fuse from the fuse box to an Andersen plug under the bumper. Fit a heavy (min 40amp) relay so the Andersen plug only comes on with key - or if you have the 2nd battery under the floor with a charge controller, you can just run the Andersen plug off the 2nd battery. This SINGLE Andersen plug will happily run the fridge on 12v, charge the van battery and power the ESC. That's all is needed, the van manufacturers are making connections far more complicated than it needs to be. Cut that 14 pin crap off (with its small pins) - friends recently purchased a premium brand van and it came with a 14 pin, grey Andersen and Red Andersen (18 pins not including rear camera!!!!) Choice was to install several relay controlled lines into their new Toureg or simplify - it's now a standard large round 7pin + Andersen Plug with a "Fridge Switch" on the fridge (which senses motion and switches the fridge 12v on when the vehicle is moving.)

    very informative
i recently replaced an earlier controller with the tow pro, i followed the wires that were run before
however, i just realized that the installer, ran the black to neg on battery,i swapped it over but maybe the unit is now toast as i get a blue light which quickly goes away, the green does not light at all, maybe I'll need call Adelaide, I reckon the older unit could not have been working as the wiring is the same

My button is setup on the right side of steering column, I’m going to move it to the left side on dash so it can be reached from passenger side, if the wife is driving which doesn’t happen very often, and the emergency brake needs to be pressed I can reach it
