Snorkel and underbody done and dusted. Snorkel is a bit bulbous and I'm told it was a serious f about to get it all in the guard.

Next on the list installing the GME radio!

    That's a sweet snorkel! Where's your guy?
You have drain holes at the back of your bash plate?
Mine's just a plate with no sides, I'd be worried yours will get full of sand/assorted crap etc.
PS. I've just done the simpson; almost, turbo blew 5kms from big red.. 😔
The rangie just eats up the bumps on the dunes. It's brilliant at this terrain. Other cars with hard suspensions really suffer, but I had a smile on my face right up until I didn't.
Oh well, dropping in a new motor and will go back.

He's in Ipswitch, i cant imagine he'd want to do it again. Didnt seem too impressed, but i can give you his details if you PM me

He did the skid plates as well, they do have holes in them, but i agree sand and what not could get caught so ill keep an eye on them. Ill likely modify them over time to suit conditions.

Sucks about the Simo! You were coming W to E i take it?

Ive got some more piccies incoming, ive done some further mods in the spare wheel well, not 100% happy but it will get me to the cape and back and thats what matters.

Yes, W to E. Only 2 dunes to go before Big Red...
Think I may have split a turbo hose & spun it out. I had planned to change the turbo soon. Oh well, school fees...
I have some pics myself, might post a few. It's stunning out there.

Bit concerned about your choice of tyre. The towie who recovered my vehicle, which he had to drag over 3 dunes, specifically mentioned difficulties he'd had with an airsprung vehicle on oversized tyres that had sunk to the bumpstops. The tyres are too big for the wheel wells & won't turn, making a recovery very much more difficult and expensive as a flatbed might have to be used. Even your mates can't tow you on flat ground. This is why I've stuck to 265's when I got my muddies. Do you have an IIDTool? Essential. You'll need to run at off-road height at least, & the car won't let you do that if you're travelling over 50kmh. Wouldn't want it to drop to standard height coming up a dune, you won't get over it. The tool lets you set different height profiles.

Yeah I'm aware of the risk with those tyres and yep have an IID tool

If push comes to shove, i can remove the front quarters and inner liners which should give enough room.

Theres a guy in the states that sells a lift kit with strut/shock/air spring spacers to 2 inches which looks pretty good so if i continue on this path of making this a capable tourer, i'll probably look at doing that. The seller said he created them for his truck when he had a fault and bumpstopped his rig. He has a 4" lift but it required too much modification for my liking.

I also have UV curing fibre patches and some air lines + a compressor rebuild kit with me just in case

Can you remove the liners when the wheel wells are full of tyre? I had trouble when replacing my rear airsprings, and the wells were empty. The towie was REALLY pi$$ed off about the one he encountered where the wheels wouldn't turn, caused him no end of drama.

I worry about my airlines, they're coming up on 20 years old now. Pig of a job to replace the I should imagine, hard enough on the P38. That said I'd like to do it to further bulletproof the car. Any ideas to make it easier?

Re. Lift kits, I spend a fair amount of time on freeways at 110km/h &would be worried about stability if I couldn't get down to freeway height. I find that with the IIDTool I have plenty of clearance for desert & Vic high country, traction control takes care of any deficiencies if she lifts a leg. Still, if you're building a bush pig that'd be a great idea. More stress on CV joints of course, more to worry about..

Well, i just got back from Cape York. Did the Old Tele track.

    Some notes:

    1. 275/65/18 tyres rub on my Arnotts air springs when hitting (or getting close to) the bumpstops. So much so i blew a bag on the backroads travelling north (on the road). The car was in highway mode and was rubbing on the undulating roads. Will be moving back to 265 width when these tyres are done.

    2. So much clearance on these rigs, you probably don't need underbody protection if you know how to take a proper line

    3. Unifilter snorkel filters are incredibly useful, basically no dust through to the air filter, very impressed.

    4. Dual seals on the doors don't help when you get stuck in a river haha

    5. 91RON fuel economy is atrocious on the 4.4. Especially in low range. 39 l/100 on the OTT. Opal fuels are even worse.

    6. The L322 acts like its twin locked, i have the version before they put the mode selector in, pop her in low range, point and shoot! It really is impressive.

    7. Don't overcomplicate your 12v setup...

    8. Make sure your drain bungs in the spare wheel well are correctly pulled in and secure, yes, you will flood your boot and air suspension compressor..

    9. She laps up corrugations..

    10. Not one issue that wasn't caused by myself thinking i know better than the Range Rover engineers (wide tyres, driving through chest height rivers without a tow etc)
