There is a Dutch bloke called Diagnosis Dan on You tube who specialises in fixing BMWs that nobody else can fix.before i started to do the timing chains, i had a timing camshaft fault, i still have a camshaft fault
I recall that in one of his videos he found that there are two identical connectors on the RH side of the engine for double vanos.
If they are connected to the wrong vanos it causes a camshaft timing fault.
Maybe not your problem but you never know.
