Thread: BCM replacement - Where in Melbourne

I've got a problem with my 2004 Rangie. In summary issues with the rear doors and tailgate opening with the remote and also heavy power steering. Through a lot of research it appears as though it is a semi common issue (in UK at least) and it comes down to a fault in the BCM. It seems as though several relays in the module seem to wear out. There is some info on the web about which ones to replace but I'd rather just get someone to fix it.

Any new module (or 2nd hand) will need to be programmed for your car but I found a company in the UK that fixes them and you send and they return the one from your car. Given current COVID delays and past history with UK postage I'm not that keen to wait 10 weeks :-(

I haven't been able to find anybody in Australia that offers the same service (admit only online searches so far) . I'm also open to buying a 2nd hand one if someone can program it.

Does anybody know of any of the independant repairs that would / have done this before fix before in Melbourne..

Just an update for future reference for others.

The UK company was Autoelectron and I dealt with a guy called Mervyn.

It cost me $40 to send my BCM to the UK, Mervyn charged £79.50 for the repair including standard air freight back.

It took ~4 weeks round trip, it may have normally been a little quicker but there was a public holiday in UK when it got there and he had taken a long weekend.

I didn’t pull the BCM apart to see what they may have changed but I believe it was a few relays. I think the circuit board was resealed with something as it stunk and I left it a day before putting it in.

Once refitted all the problems have been fixed, I didn’t realise how annoying it was before …… now the doors open when the remote is pushed, tailgate always opens with the remote and the power steering is never heavy at low speed.
