I had a vibration in my car under medium load. Ended up being the centre universal joint and mount of my rear driveshaft.
Hi. I’m in the UK and have just joined this forum to see if anyone can shed light on a problem I have with an engine..
First let me say that I own an L320 supercharged so these forums may prove to be useful in the future..
Anyway, the engine in question is in my BMW X5 - the M62tu 4.4 which was also used in Range Rovers.
The problem it has is a drone / buzzing vibration and harshness at about 1700rpm when under medium load. It’s recently had a trans overhaul with torque converter etc so I don’t think it’s that.
I came across a post by a member on here (who I have pmd) and he described a very similar symptom on his engine and he mentioned ‘auxiliary drive belt drone’.
Is this such a thing? Can anyone shed any light on my engines problem?
Thanks.

I have an L322 with the M62 and can’t say I’ve had the problem. I wonder if it’s a failing fan belt.

BTW, you have an L322, not an L320 which is an RR Sport. Probably just a typo - we all make them.

Thanks for the replies.
Incorrect - I do have an L320. It’s a 2005 Range Rover Sport 4.2
Anyway, back to the vibration. I don’t think it’s the centre support bearing as it only does it at a certain rpm. I have checked it and it seems ok to me. I could be wrong though.
Aha! I misread the post. I missed that the question was about your X5, not your Rangie which might explain why I didn’t understand the auxiliary belt reference, the L322 only has a single serpentine belt for the fan and ancillaries.
