    CVD or not?

Ive got a 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8 4.4 with only 72000km on the clock and very limited off road work. I’ve sprung a leak in the front left air suspension (small crack in the air bag). I’ve cut & clamped the air hose which at least allows the other 3 to stay inflated. It sits and rides a bit wonky, but at least it’s not riding around on the bump stops after the compressor overheats and deflates all 4 corners.
Looks like I need to order a new front airbag strut and there seems to be 2 types, standard or Continuous Variable Dampening compatible. My questions are:
How do I know if I need CVD or standard? Was CVD standard in the 2012 model?
Will standard struts work in place of CVD?
should I replace just the leaky one or would I be better doing both at the same time?
Any recommendations for local Aussie suppliers?
anything else I should know about?
Would greatly appreciate any advice from members. Cheers.

Olly with those Km's I'd just replace the bag ! To replace the strut is around A$640 + freight + GST from the UK Local price would be well over $1k at a guess. Just get a OEM or Arnotts, don't look at the Chinese ones, most don't seal properly from installation.

Thanks Laurie. Love a recommendation that actually saves $$$. If I just replace the bag, does it matter if it’s CVD compatible or not?

Olly, all you need is the compatible airbag for your model, the CVD is inside the strut, so unaffected.

Thought if it was the front one for a 2010 and beyond had to be the full strut assembly not just the bag?

I initially replaced just the bags on my MY12. Mud caught between the strut and the bag cut lots of tiny holes in both bags.

Yes. That’s what I found when I first looked into it. Airbags for standard struts are widely available, but none advertised specially for CVD which are only available as a complete strut assembly at much higher $$$. If, as Laurie says, the CVD control is in the strut, then it sounds like the air bags are the same in both. 🤞

Ooh bugger. What brand did you use Graeme and how long did they last? Does this mean you’d recommend the full strut assembly?

I'll check the brand shortly but IIRC only cheapies. They didn't fail, only removed when complete struts were fitted when the shocks were worn out.

Edit: BMI brand ex Duckworths and around $300 each + frt late 2018, so not particularly cheap.
