    YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR A/T G015

Has anyone used the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 in 275/50X20 ? Considering this size over 275/55x20 ! Presently running 275/45x20, but looking for a bigger tyre.

Have you considered 255/55R20? I'm running 255/60R19 GG AT3 (also 31") after a couple of sets of 275/55R20.

Thanks Graeme, no I hadn't considered that size, always preferred the wider tyre. What are your impressions so far with the size and the GG AT3 Tyres, would you stay at 255 or go back to 275 ?

I'm unlikely to go back to 275/55R20 as they always felt big whereas the 255/60R19 don't. The GG AT3 255/60R19 give a harsher ride than my 275/55R20 Pirelli AT+ even though they have the same LI 113 and have the same sidewall height but the AT3 perform much better in sloppy stuff so suit my use better. I don't know if I'll stick with the GGs when they eventually need replacing but there's currently nothing else in this size that suits my usage. Pirelli had planned to produce the AT+ in 255/60R19 LI 113 and in several other LR-specific sizes but then abandoned the idea. The GG AT3 in 255/55R20 is only LI 110 so unlikely to be as harsh and the UK owners who have fitted them love them, excepting that their sidewalls don't like sharp rocks which is what put me off that size. Whilst Duratracs are available in 255/55R20, they look too aggressive for everyday use, are quite expensive and often out of stock and don't have the extra sidewall height of 255/60R19. However they're likely quieter than the 245/70R17 Duratracs that I had as a 2nd set for my D4 as their pattern isn't nearly as open and the 17" were LT construction although only LI 113, so perhaps an option down the track.
I had Geolander G013 (IIRC) in 265/65R17 as my D4 everyday set but thought the G015 tread in non-LT sizes too closed for the slops that I encounter every winter.

Thanks Graeme, great food for thought; most of my driving is bitumen and formed dirt roads. So I don't need an overly aggressive tyre. I saw the photos of your drive a few years ago, and can appreciate why you went that way.

I had GO12 version of Yokahamas' AT tyres on my D1(came with the car and about 1000klms new).

I think I put about 50K klms when I'd had enough of them!
First year or so, I continually had punctures, I reckon from stuff mainly in my driveway, but maybe also from where I parked at work.. screws and nails mainly.

Trip to high country on not super hard tracks, I got 5 punctures, one on a sidewall! Bro in his D2 on BFG KO2s zero(exact same tracks).
Two in the first few klms off the roads and onto the tracks. As it was pretty much all downhill, I still maintained road pressures(about 32-34-ish PSI), so it wasn't due to deflation causing more risk in puncture, they're just weakly constructed. Lucky the tyre repair kit was fresh and I just kept plugging them up and leave the spare as a last resort.

On the final day, easy roads(no tracks) from Dargo, I got another two.

Next week I got rid of them, I reckon with about 20K of life left in the tread.

Great tyres on the road, heaps of grip in the wet and not too noisy. Just weakly built.
But these were not the newer G015s, the previous G012 version.

And for comparions sake, the week after we got back, I replaced with a full set of 10ply cheapy Chinese tyres(at half the price), still on, and only 1 puncture in all that time, and roughly 70K klms.

I bought a TPMS immediately to keep eye on tyre pressures, and where the Yokos were always all over the place, the Chinesiums stick to where I set them all the time, I've never had to add a bit here or there .. just adjust up and down for the best feel economy vs comfy balance.
Mine are higher profile 70-75 aspect ratio and older generation experience, but if it were me in the market for better quality tyres(than cheapie chinesiums!) I'd choose the BFGs over Yokos any day.

I'll need tyres in the next 12 months or so, and I reckon I'll go with Falkens' AT3(going by many reviews and comments).

One of the sons has been running Yoko X-AT GO16 on his LC76 for quite a while, and likes them. Not as noisy and rough as the Micky Thompson that were on it previously, which is no surprise.

The Falken AT3 in 285/50R20 looks interesting. Excellent speed and weight ratings for a AT tyre of this size. I will have to have a look at one !
