What fuel consumption should I be getting with the L322 2002 V8?

    Hi All,

I've never had a V8 before, so I had assumed that 16 l/100km was normal, but I've just seen a FB post commenting that 16l/100km is BAD...and the best I get is 15 l/110km on the freeway. I do use the cheap & nasty E10 (supposedly 94+ octane) petrol, which probably doesn't help... but I'd read somewhere that the BMW engine would adapt to the slightly lower octane rating.

    What does everybody else get?

E10 doesn’t give as good a fuel economy as ULP or PULP.

I use 95 RON PULP. I’d have to go and look at my car’s dash to see the current long term economy but on a road trip, I get about 12-13 l/100km.

(All 5 of my Rangies and my 110 have been V8s, only my Disco 1 was a diesel.)

EDIT: Just checked my car computer and it shows long term average at 17.0 l/100km.

Just to test it out, this last fill up I put in 3/5 tank of PULP.
The engine seems to run better (which might just be perception bias), but the fuel consumption hasn't improved at all...
I'll do one more fill with PULP, and if it doesn't improve, I'll be straight back to E10 and save the $15/fill.

    Update.

PULP proved to be a waste of money.
Have been running on E10 ever since my test on PULP, without issue and with the same or better fuel consumption.

I also found PULP was a waste of money.

I tried all the fuels 91, E10, 95 and 98. My car doesn't give a rats, they all feel the same with the same economy. So mine has been on a strict diet of E10 for the last 6 years with no issues.

Also my fuel consumption is 18/100 around town and 13/100 on the highway.

Not LRs,I have recently been looking at the fuel consumption of our work vehicles. The Petrol vans get the best economy on ULP 91,using E10 increases the fuel consumption by around 1 to 2L/100 at least.
