The washer is needed to space the joint out from the bracket.
Replace the rears too as they'll also be worn-out.
I’ve had a creaking noise coming from my front suspension when driving around town, last trip away I sprayed the right front top joint with silicone spray and noise went away, so I ordered 2 new link rods, when I fitted them and took the old ones off there was one washer on the top joint of left side link so I checked the workshop manual and it says “note the fitting (placement) of the special washer” as the new ones didn’t come with washers I fitted them without and now the noise is ten times worse, I’m thinking of putting the old ones back on for our upcoming trip on Sunday, does anyone know what the “special washers” are, I thought they may not be metal but something special, any help would be appreciated

Thanks again Graeme, got some washers from Repco that fit perfect over thread and fitting them today, hopefully that stops the creaking sound, driving through a car park people turn and look, or maybe it’s because they like the car 😂 heading off tomorrow to Cameron’s Corner then due to flooding can’t do the cut line over to Bourke and Lightening Ridge, was looking forward to that to see how car went on longer dirt road driving than what we have done and how the DRS works on the caravan to reduce dust, eventually up as far as Hervey Bay then back down with friends to do the Murray river, thanks as always for your replies
That sounds like a good trip. I can't remember when it was that I went out to Camerons Corner in my RRC with my 2 sons and one of their friends but I've been through a couple of times since. I really like travelling in the outer regions.
