    Whistle from audio

I was in a near new TDV8 Vogue today and the owner has a problem with the audio.

As soon as the car starts moving, the audio system emits a medium pitched whine that is not controllable by the volume control.

As soon as the car comes to a halt, the noise stops. Start moving and it comes back.

As it's after the volume control, it's there all the time on radio, CD, TV, etc.

The only thing I could think of was something triggered from the ABS sensors as they'd start to generate a signal - perhaps the signal that stops video being viewed whilst driving?

The pitch doesn't change with engine speed or road speed.

Back to the dealer I think (the car is still under warranty).

I wish I could afford to have his problem.

It will be a short somewhere. I had a similar noise in the G-Wagen whenever the lights were on. I guess these things happen when you have 27 speakers.

He wanted me to buy his "old" TDV8 Vogue. I did drive the older car. Very, very nice.

Sorry, older TDV8 with the smaller 3.6 litre engine, not the new 4.4 litre engine. I reckon it accelerated quicker than my 4.6 P38A.

    Ron,

Could be a fault with the alternator, or I'm told that if you have HID lights fitted, the ballasts in them can cause problems with audio systems.
May need to shield the ballasts with metal foil if this is the problem.
