    Good story.

    Interestingly the Jimny often struggles in WA sand tracks, mainly because the wheels are too close together for the ruts. Otherwise they are a very capable 4WD The light weight is good most of the time but doesn't always help it.

    Another vehicle that is surprisingly capable off-road, largely because of its light weight and possibly its articulation is the Citroen 2CV.

    1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
    1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.

    Didn't they make some 4WD versions for the Paris Dakar (or maybe just as prototypes) by sticking another engine in the boot?
