Having sold the L322 a few months ago I’ve finally upgraded to a new toy with all the fruit. Ex LRJ Exec vehicle . Can’t wait for the truck to deliver it from PERTH to BRISBANE. Tomorrow it visits Autospark Osborne Park WA for a DBS, Anderson plug, Tow Pro etc. Has Advanced Tow Assist and rear ediff. Under 9000kms so as new!

    Congratulations!

While at Autospark you might like to consider getting them to put in a switched direct connection to the second battery to allow emergency starting if necessary. I just got them to do that to mine last month, after I needed to jump start because my main battery was dying. At the same time I got them to replace the small factory second battery (a TDV6 thing to aid with the auto stop start) which had completely failed. The car now auto stops when there is enough charge in both factory batteries but at least it now has all of the battery power it was designed for.

I also noticed while they were doing that work that in addition to the UHF antenna mount that I got for mine they have now developed driving light mounts, which you might like to consider. I think I will get them for mine soon.

I am going to put extra fuel and spare tyre on the roof and I found out that LR can supply roof rails and bars that enable a roof rack to be fitted even with the sun roof. I just got the dealer to fit the rails and bars and I'm now getting a Rhino Universal Pioneer Platform to mount the stuff to. After that, I just need another spare wheel and tyre and I am hopefully Outback ready.

One other thing to be aware of is that a Hema GPS won't work because the windscreen blocks the GPS signal. That is a PITA as I bought a Hema HX1 just before I bought the car. I am now trying to get a retransmitter to work, so far without much success. The standard GPS on a 2013 model is almost useless! The newer ones are greatly improved.

I'll let you know how I go with all the new stuff!

    L405

    Thanks Bob, will do!

I am going to buy a 2nd hand L320 RRS Sport Expedition rack - saw one on Gumtree for $300 - and use that (as per the Silk Road RR's). It bolts to the roof rails you bought - I've ordered those too!

i saw they fitted a light bar into the grill of a L405 - neat fit! And I wonder if the Tyre Trek rear wheel and jerry can holder might fit - when not towing ofcourse.

I was going to mention that too! With 20 inch rims you can fit 275 x 55 R20 tyres which are the biggest that can fit in the spare wheel well. I have Nitto Grapplers on mine, which seem to be a very good compromise and not too noisy, at least when new.

If you go to 20 and find a good source, please let me know. I need a single 20" rim for my second spare.

Yeah, I had a look at your car or actually was enthusiastically forced to have a look! Pity you have the rear air con because that takes up the space where the second (actually third) battery would go on the left side. He is going to make up a new side trim and put the battery in the recess on the right hand side. I hope you don't get too much of a shock when he shows you the bill because those guys don't come cheap and creating a new side panel will cost!! However, the quality is great and I know that Greg Milner and I have been happy to spend the dollars to get a first class job.

No doubt you will get some photos if you haven't already. When I saw it this afternoon they were installing the wiring in the boot and all of the panels and floor were removed apart from the left side panel. I went to see if I could get driving lights installed in my Vogue but they haven't yet fitted their lighting bracket to a Vogue, only to two different late model Sports, both of which required different mountings until they came up with a common bracket that would fit both. I will get them to look at mine and hopefully their standard bracket design will fit. They managed to adapt their D4 light brackets to fit my son's D3, although they were more flexible than on the D4 and only suitable for a light bar due to the lack of rigidity when fitted to a D3.

The driving light bracket that Tim made for the latest RRS does not fit my Vogue so I will have to stay with the standard lights. He can make up a new custom one but the cost is not worth it for the amount of night driving I do.
