    MY13 Issue to Look for

There's a slim chance, but I may look to upgrade to a MY13 4.4 TDV8, what if any thing should I be looking for on the car in terms of known areas of concern and work that should have been done. Its got about 100k km's on the clock.

Check that the front suspension has been fixed (ARC valve block update, or something, somebody will chime in with correct terminology)
Also on My13 note that it does not have the updated can-bus (has single instead of twin) , so for instance park assist and e-diff could not be spec'd at the same time.

The first major problem is that the front shocks leak oil and fill up the air bags with oil at very low km. Mine were buggered at 40,000km and should have been fixed by the previous owner under warranty. It is a known problem on Topix. Most fail at less than 20,000km if they have the bad shocks.

Apart from a very uncontrolled ride the car won't lower and keeps wanting to raise instead, due to the restriction on the suspension when lowering.

The second one is that the transfer case was not properly calibrated at the factory. This causes it to lock and unlock randomly and wrecks the oil. You need to change the oil twice and recalibrate it to fix the problem. Again, this is known on Topix with instructions on the symptoms and how to fix it. If the car has this problem it will thump and bang under acceleration when turning. In my case it was mainly turning right. Also happens after four wheel driving on a beach when you return to on road mode back on the bitumen.

This feels like there are teeth missing in the rear diff and there are a lot of bangs and thumps. It is not nice on a newly acquired expensive car. Mine was terrible the day after I bought it at 40,000km and again it should have been fixed under warranty. Very easy to fix if you know what it is! It didn't show up in my test drive, where everything was smooth and quiet. Others have said that it feels like a front diff problem.

Change the oil and recalibrate the transfer case and it is perfect again.

MY13 4.4s had the single secondary turbo drain pipe ex factory but it may have since been upgraded. Its expensive to have done out of warranty.

Thanks Graeme. Mine also had that problem! Rovertech was given the job of fixing a slight coolant leak under the left side EGR under the used car warranty and fixed the turbo drain at the same time when they noticed excessive smoke from the exhaust. It also needed a multitude of software updates. So much for the local dealers servicing expertise. The car was serviced by them at the normal service intervals, governed by time in my case, due to the low mileage the car had done over the 4 years before I bought it.

    Thanks all

Does the gearbox need a service/flush at any point?

Also I've been told they don't have service/log books per se, its all online via VIN - is this true and if so does anyone have the URL?

It is the 8 speed ZF. My indie recommends a flush every 80,000km.

It runs cooler than the 6 speed in the D4 so probably the oil will last longer.

So I found the online service record, and this only shows the services up to 2016 June which is the last time a dealer serviced it, and about 30k kms short of current odometer reading.

I believe due to the sticker on the window an indie services it, but are independents allowed to update this online service record, and if not how would you check and maintain an ongoing service history?

Also the online history had no record of recalls or warranty work, should that be there or is that a check with dealer route?

Previously Topix would show recalls outstanding and completed. Not sure if that’s still available.

Topix shows everything is outstanding on mine even though the dealer carried the work in the Topix campaigns after I bought it. They reckon that they can't update it for some reason after I queried why it still had everything listed as outstanding on Topix! So much for an electronic record. Seems to work OK on my 2017 Disco Sport with the same dealer so they might have improved the system since the 2013 model.

The Indies can't update the service records so you need to get it off their computer. They should have all the records if you know who they are. Mine was only serviced by the dealer in question before I bought it and the auction house provided a piece of paper obtained from them showing when the services had been carried out.

In my case, there were no recalls to carry out and as I said, the dealer obviously doesn't bother to update the software at all, even on a 2013, which is the first year of that model and will no doubt have heaps of software to update as mine did. There are the things I mentioned in Topix that should have been fixed under warranty but only if the owner complains. They don't do a recall for these things!
