    In the flesh.........

    3 middle aged, cynical fat blokes who own a D4, DS and RSS between them go to see the new D5.....................underwhelmed was the consensus

    The D4 had both luxury and utility about it. The D5 only has the former.

    The whole back end arrangement sucks (compared to the D4), what with the one piece tailgate and the sloping roof, narrowing sides and swept back top section of the door opening act to limit access to the rear.

    This one being the $144k HSE. The ladies said it was the TD6 but you could swing a cat between the radiator and the front of the engine. We thought is must have been an SD4.

    There does look to be a spot (no pics) on the LHS where a second battery could go (with some work).

    I'm still not entirely convinced with this move by LR.
    One the one hand: new models nearly always improve on old.
    But everything I see, and read, points to this being more of a shopping trolley than the D4; and that's not what I want. Will it sell? Like hot cakes, no doubt.
    For a reliable, touring, Offroad vehicle...I'm waiting a year or so...and then the New Defender (and the dark side) awaits!!!

    I recon it has been designed for a market that is not really the D3/4 type of market.

    I am the same,wait for the Defender,if it ever arrives,but then i wouldn't get the first of any model anyway.

    There are always other brands........

    I forgot to mention the ladies from the dealership said they had 50 orders for the HSE (as displayed) at $144k each.

    Did you happen to notice what tyre size they had.

    For that sort of money you can buy a demo RRS SDV6 HSE which I think I prefer.

    I wish they would at least release pictures & some details of the new defender.
    Cheers

    Looks like a Yuppie Toorak Taxi from the outside to me and the interior and dash set up is just plain "Butt Ugly" as far as I am concerned.
    You can get a whole lot of REAL landrover for 144k

    For those that were in the market for a RRS or a RR for sure.

    To answer my own question
    Called in to MLR today to ask few questions;
    1. They have told me the following tyre sizes
    19" = 255 X 60
    20" = 255 X 55
    This is good news to me any way as it means we should be able to fit BFG KO2 in 275 x 55 x 20 these will only be 20mm wider & 22mm taller thus legal in all states & a much better option than currently available on standard oem rims for a D4.
    I believe this size also works on a current model RRS.

    2. I priced up a D5 HSE with a few good options and it came to $128,000 this is obviously full RRP, the corporate plan will now provide 5 years free scheduled servicing.
    Two of the big ticket options were sliding panoramic sun roof & advanced off road pack including ediff.
    Cheers

    I hope they don't resonate on the new Disco as they do on my L322, both being monocoque with front and rear sub-frames. The L405's front sub-frame bolts directly to the body the same as the L322 so I suspect the L462's does too, but perhaps the L322's body is the culprit.

    Best summary ever!

    I had similar feelings on the looks when the AU Falcon came out and that didn't go well.

    There is just a clean break from previous Disco styling that disappoints.
