Wireless Phone Charging Cup Holder D5

I added this to the recent purchase of our new Disco. Trouble is, it doesn't work. Lights are on, but there's nobody home. Landrover is blaming my Samsung S8, Samsung is blaming Landrover. I'm the lamb chop stuck in the middle of a $500 useless purchase. My local dealer is trying to get to the bottom of this, but I did read somewhere recently that the format Landrover has taken with this technology is a bit of a hit and miss affair. Has anybody got and ideas of where the truth lies. I'm no tech head.

This might have something to do with it:
Some Galaxy S8 and S8+ users are having problems with Qi wireless charging

The Land Rover wireless charger is a Qi based charger.
    Cheers,

    Sean

Looking real good - phone back to supplier; not fit for purpose.

I'd be reluctant to go back to Phone maker.
The chances are more than likely that the Landrover product is either not working or incompatible.

If you look at the Landrover accessories brochure, it says iPhone compatible .. doesn't explicitly say Samsung S8 compatible!

If you understand how Qi charging works, you'd know that the two coils need to be lined up with each other for the charging process to happen.

If the coils are located differently(ie. higher or lower on the vertical axis) on each of the phones, then one wireless charger for one phone type won't really work on the other phone type.

I know nothing of latest gen iPhone and Samsung phone, but I've retro fitted my phones(1 mine, 2x kids phones) with Qi charging pads.
Took me some time to find the best location on my phone for the coil pad, but the kids phones(S5's) were fixed.

In my car I have a magnetic Qi holder charger, so I've also added a magnetic ring on the back of my phone in addition to the Qi charging pad.
I then had to locate the magnetic ring with mm precision as well, so that it charged on my two home Qi chargers AND the magnetic Qi charger in the car.
If I place the phone on the car charger just a mm or two too high or low, it doesn't charge.

If the cupholder Qi charger was Samsung branded, then for sure go back to Samsung to sort it out.
But I reckon LR are stuffing you around for sure.

    Maybe.. I run Qi devices.

In this case though S8s have a known problem... I’d be chasing the phone maker

Samsung would have every right to refuse assistance considering the use of a thridparty charger tho!

As for the known problem on the S8:

"The problem seems to happen with various wireless chargers, even Qi wireless chargers coming from Samsung themselves. Their new wireless charger made specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S8 does seem to work without a hitch.

Some users are saying that it’s simply a problem with the position of the smartphone not aligning properly to the wireless charging pad. This could be a probable cause since the new Galaxy smartphones have different dimensions compared to the previous flagships. Despite this, wireless charging should still work somehow.

It hasn’t been reported yet if this is another manufacturing defect or a problem with the wireless chargers. Samsung also hasn’t commented regarding the problem the users have been having."
The site this was taken from (qiwireless.com) have a video someone uploaded to show the problem.
They'd used old model Samsung chargers, which didn't work.

It's probably bad form on Samsung's part not to maintain compatibility .. but that's the way they 'progress' I guess.

OP's best approach is to confirm whether the S8 charges with the appropriate Samsung Qi charger(ie. not just any Qi charger) first.

    Samsung S8 Qi charger

If that product charges the S8, next step would be to demand refund from LR for an incompatible product.
If that product fails to charge the S8, then demand action from Samsung.

How’s he going to “demand” a refund.
They supplied a product specifying Apple - in every accessories catalogue/brochure.

No refunds for getting it wrong Wireless Phone Charging Cup Holder D5

It does say iPhone compatible, that is alluding to a point that it does work with an iPhone ... but also says compatible with phones less than 73mm wide (au site)
"2Cradle compatible phone devices must have a width less than 73mm."
The GB site words it a little differently ...

"The holder will accommodate varying phone sizes securely in place. The charger displays an LED light to indicate when charging, and turns off when complete. Fits phones up to 72mm wide. For use with Qi enabled wireless charging devices only."
nothing specifically relating to the iPhone.

If the charger was only recently bought there should be a cooling off period, which allows for device incompatibility issues.

Unless the OP can ascertain that the S8 does charge wirelessly with an approved charger, the issue is unlikely to be resolved.

    a question then...

Does the S8 of the OP have a case on it?
Have they tried placing phone in upside down?
