    D5 windscreen and stones

So far we have travelled about 10,000km on a trip to WA including the Plenty Hwy and Tanami Rd. We have collected 6 stone chips (all on bitumen roads) and have been patching them up as fast as we can. One got away from us and we didn’t get to it until it was a crack about 400mm long. Glued it up as best we could and hope that it holds until back in Sydney.
While we had chips on our D4 screen and had two screen replacements in 7 years and 140,000km, this experience with the D5 seems over the top.
We travel at 100 max because we are towing.
My question is have others had issues with stones on the D5? I am wondering whether it could be because of the extra slope on the bonnet or because we don’t yet have a bull bar which might deflect a few. I’d be interested in your experiences.

Is it the standard windscreen or the solar attenuated screen?

Although not a D5 I would say they are similar, one of the 1st things I noticed when going from the D4 to the L494 was how noisey rain was on the windscreen. I can only assume it is thinner - I don't know that for a fact.

I copped a hard whack from a stone in the bottom right corner which set a fair crack across the screen. I had it replaced with a genuine one(supposedly) at WS O'briens in Wollongong (really good service) and have had a few good hits on it since without any incident.
    Cheers,

    Sean

On the UK forum a few people have had windscreens replaced as well. The manufacturer is different from the D4 windscreens too.

Copped a decent chip on the screen 2 weeks ago and just under the 20cent coin test so had it fixed. Never had a problem with the D3 screen and it went on lots of gravel roads. Must say though I have had 26,000KLMs of trouble free motoring.

I now have a 300 long crack glued up in our 2nd screen after 35000km. I will replace the screen in August (assuming it lasts that long) after a trip to WA.
