    Mods and warranty

I’m looking at putting a dual battery system into my new Discovery 5 and LR said that unless they do the install, any related issues would not be covered by warranty. Truth or fiction?

What 'related issues' would a dual battery install cause? Plenty of vehicles under warranty get dual batteries.

That’s the million dollar question. I can see why issues it could cause. They kind of intimated that if anything went wrong electrically then it could ‘potentially’ be because of the dbs. And for that reason the warranty would be void unless they installed it. ??? Scare tactics or does law actually dictate their position.

I meant I ‘can’t’ see what issues it could cause...

I'm sure Drivesafe would have some useful things to say about this question.

It's not a case of what issues could the battery cause. The mod simply gives LR the option to walk away from the warranty and put the onus back onto you to prove that it didn't cause the problem.

I would imagine it would be easy to simply say that part 'x' failed due to a voltage spike cause by the dual batter system now you have to go away and prove it didn't... how do you even start to do that.

What options are left open to you after than other than going legal. Having the law on your side is only the beginning, taking legal action is the expensive part.

Called LR again yesterday to actually ask for a quote on what I wanted and they said they couldn’t do it and I should go to ARB! Go figure..

I've had three DBS systems over the years and never had any of them cause a 'related fault'. All it does is flow some juice from the first to second battery. Am I missing something?

I don't think you are, I guess I'm just highlighting the way that some dealers operate. I've just seen first hand how some businesses operate with regards to backing away from warranty issues. A DBS is pretty simple but given the complexity of a D5 and potentially hellishly expensive gremlins that can arise why expose yourself. That said its pretty tricky if LR are saying go to ARB...

Funny enough, my D5 is on its second tank about6 weeks old. I ask the dealer about
    • Second battery
    • electric brake controller
    • uhf radio

Answer: sorry we don’t do that have to go somewhere else...
    go figure.

any hints on where to go on Gold Coast?
