All landrover Specialists are NOT created Equal and IF you are really lucky you will come across one that not only does Top rated work they can also be cheaper than the other workshops in town.Quote:

Indies,from my experience are generally very good and charge reasonable rates,which is the reason I have used one near here for many years,and don’t use LR dealers.
It’s the main dealers that charge exorbadent prices,as per the many posts on this site.
And their workmanship often doesn’t have the best reputation.
They are Indies But they specialise in LR ( I can't recall seeing any other brand in the workshop) and yes they also do warranty and servicing work.Quote:

$2,800 for pads? I just payed a third less than that for an entire disc brake conversion for the 101 including adaptors, discs, callipers AND pads. Surely they are taking the ****?

I have found that since about 2016 the servicing costs have increased dramatically. I just thought I was just being charged a "Range Rover" tax. In September last year I was told by the dealer that I needed to have front and rear rotors and pads replaced. I asked them for a quote given I was feeling a little chaffed after recent service costs. The quote was $2200. Needless to say I said "no thanks" and took it to Roving Mechanical at Peakhurst. Everything was done for about $1K. The car was at 94K Km, it'd had the rear pads done previously at about 50K km. Both dealer an indi were amazed I had gotten 94K Km out of the fronts and 44K Km out of the rears. I was told 30-50K Km was normal. That, to me, is unacceptable.Quote:

The interesting thing for me regarding this indi is, I know two of the three guys there from the dealership I use and Pete(one of the owners) is a legend of the brand too. So there is no issue with confidence in their work or knowledge of the later models. My next service is with them.
No consolation but son's g friend was quoted 2500 to do the brakes on her vw gti golf...that was 5 months ago...we checked them and found no urgency and we'll do them for a third of that stealer cost. They pulled the same stunt with car not legal.. your kid will die etc etc.
Just had the same warning and a quick check revealed the sensor cable had worn through on the front wearing against the rim. I knew is wasn’t pads as I had just replaced the original pads and rotors at 110000. Replaced sensor myself for $20. Did they actually put your car on a hoist and have a look at the condition of the pads and rotors? When that sensor is triggered it is just reporting the “alledged” condition of one pad, in particular the inner front left pad or inner rear right pad is below threshold. The chances of two at once is remote.
I would get a written quote then and independent assessment. It could well mean a faulty inner piston on the rear calliper ( not uncommon) and in fact a warranty issue. Given these are much lighter than the D4 a full brake kit at 33000 is outrageous. Unless you’ve done 20000 of those on Fraser Island or drive with your left foot on the brake something is wrong.
Do not agree to this and postpone the service.

Over Easter I did the front and rear rotors and pads on my D4, using DBA 4000 rotors (T3 front, T2 rear) and DBA eXtreme Performance pads. The total cost for this was $680 and two hours work in my shed.
