Finally joining the Discovery Club - hopefully!

I am looking at getting a D5. I cannot call it the "All New Discovery". What is the next one, the "All Newer Discovery", then the "Much More Newer Discovery"? I have wanted a Discovery since I drove a D3 in Namibia years ago. Looks like I finally will get one...

It will be a white SE 5 seater with Advanced Tow Assist, Drive Pack and Capability Plus Pack, 360 Surround Cameras, Heated Front Seats, key-less entry and a couple of other things.

As are most new owners, I am tossing up the whole 19" vs 20" rim problem. I have found, theoretically, five tyres - one in LT, the Maxxis - in 255/55R19. The current OEM tyres on 19" rims seem to be 255/60R19, but the tyre placard does not seem to have caught up - it still says 235/65R19. Boy, this stuff is doing my head in. There seem to be two options in 255/55R20 - Goodyear DuraTrac and Grabber AT3 - and at least six in 275/55R20. Is there anything in LT in 20"? Generally I am not a fan of going over or under size on tyres if it can be avoided, but it seems the choice is very limited.

I will also have to get a Redarc Tow Pro Elite fitted along with a couple of Anderson plugs, one inside for my removable auxiliary battery and one at the tow hitch receiver for the camper trailer. The fun seems to be where to put the control knob for the Redarc. Has anyone mounted it near the drink holders? Then comes fitting the UHF and antenna.

I am very much looking forward to becoming a full member of this august group.

    Cheers

Hi Numb Thumbs. A good buy! You will love the Discovery and won’t even know the Crossover is tagging along!
I have the Tow Pro mounted to the right of and below the steering wheel with the switch for the van’s Alko ESC just below it. All very convenient.

    G'day Numb Thumbs!

The popular D5 tyre choice is 275/55R20 due to half-decent sidewall height and are available in quite a few brands. Whilst they're over-size they still fit in the spare wheel well. I'd like 255/60R19 on my L322 as 275/55R20 is a little too big for my liking but the lack of a decent AT in 255/60R19 means that I'll keep using 275/55R20.

Ah, the joys of choosing tyres! It really does your head in...

At present I am thinking maybe Nitto Terra Grabber in 275/55R20 117T. They seem to be a good compromise. When I am being honest I spend the majority of my time on bitumen. A standard trip for me would be 1500 kms on bitumen, 1000 kms on dirt, rocks and sand then 2000 kms home on bitumen. And then there is all the around town driving on wet and dry bitumen.

The Falken Wildpeak AT3W and Pirelli AT+ are possibles, though my experience with Pirellis over the years is great, sticky tyres I change every 20,000 to 25,000 kms when they are worn out...

Then I have to think about roof racks/bars. New feet for my platform rack, new feet for cross bars or maybe new bars. It never ends!

    Ordered!

Well, we have odered a white Discovery 5 SDV6 SE 5 seater with 20" rims, Drive Pack, Off Road Capability Plus Pack and Advanced Tow Assist plus a few other things - 360 degree camera, electric tail gate, Keyless entry, heated front seats and the heated windscreen - which I did not want.

Hopefully it will arrive in a couple of weeks, 3 at the outside.

I will fit roof rails after a little while and change the tyres to 255/55R20 Wrangler Duratracs at some point. If they will trade in the standard tyres, I'll do it now, if not, I'll wait until the first trip in May.

Now I have to strip all the stuff out of the current car.... That will take a little while.

    Cheers

    How long does it take?

    Hi
I ordered my D5 HSE Luxury in Middle August, dealer confirmed build was done on the 24th September

was wondering how long it takes to get to delivery date.
It feels like I’ve already driven the car out of warranty in my dreams.

How long did you guys wait for your D5 after ordering it

    Cheers!

I cheated and jumped the queue. Mine was already in the country. Seems to take a rediculous time to get it delivered 650 kms.

    Hopefully yours will arrive soon.

    Cheers
