Sure, Europe has gone anti diesel, but the Patrol doesn't sell in that market. I refuse to carry petrol in jerries, the stuff is too volatile, so it needs huge tanks.

I agree they are better off road than the tradie's utes, and any 7x series, but are they better than a 200? I would put them as line ball. The V8 is sweet though.

    Now, look at this:

No IFS, Cummins 6BT, and unstoppable.... well, I reckon there's a track or two, because the thing is so BIG. But it shows what live axle can do.

Tata is rich. LR, the brand, will survive. The LR that this forum is based on likely won't. The world won't let it.

I wish they still made OKAs.
Where did you hear they are replacing driveshafts at 50,000km? This is the first i have heard of this, and i am on most of the y62 groups. Ours just hit 50,000km should i be wary??
Also its ifs/irs, toyota ifs only, and if you watch any of the y62 vs 200 vids, you will see it dominates the beloved toyota.
As for jerry cans, fit a longrange tank, done! There has been a few that have done the CSR no issues, with economy returning very similar to when i did it in a diesel cruiser.
After owning one, i will never own a modern diesel again, this leaves it for dead in almost every way.

Oh and Zoltans ram is a beast, but boy he has done a LOT of mods to it.

I have been on Patrol forums ( not just Y62 ) a lot lately, trying to figure my son's Y61.
Here is one site, although I guess it's 50K MILES, still, 80k here.

Pls don't used 'beloved' and 'Toyota' in the same sentence speaking to me.

In the current climate, and if budget permitted, I'd seriously consider the Y62. But my question was, is it better than an LC? You say it is. And maybe you are right.

But I'm unconvinced by the IRS argument. What else does it do better? Serious questions, I really want to know.

It's an amazing engine, no doubt. Doesn't overcome my dislike for carrying petrol.

Of course. It was my intention to show what solid can do that independent usually can't. The thing is insane though, isn't it?

I was amazed to learn the 70 series models are all still part time 4WD. I thought staying with the leaf style suspension was bad enough.

The D5 is growing on me. But trading my old tdv8 L322 for D5 or L663 would be a massive outlay for some nice but not massively nice features.
    L322 tdv8 poverty pack - wow

    D5 Sales

I ended up buying a D5 HSE SDV6 in December after the pricing and options for the Defender were released.

The D5 ended up being $30k less than i was quoted for a Defender SE Diesel.

I looked a Land-cruisers & the D5 again was far cheaper with far better ride, power, safety, fuel economy etc.

The D5 is my 5th Discovery and i am very happy with it, yes it was $20k more than my last D4 but to be fair that included HSE spec with sunroof v D4 SDV6 SE Spec.

Have had the D5 off road at Mt Disappointment & was very happy with its performance off road.

    Cheers

Re the Y62 driveline my resident Nissan experts say they've not heard of problems cept where 37s are fitted and the wonderful engine is supercharged. The traction control system is also better as is the general level of equipment.

Give me a petrol any day.. far fewer engine issues and petrol is available everywhere nowadays. We did 5500ks with a V8 petrol 100 series thru many remote areas and never had a prob getting petrol.

Yeah 'Merican trucks struggle on narrow Tassie tracks but some cashed up tradies do take them there..which is a sight to see esp if they have 40" wheels on🤤

I recon anyone that wants to buy a large 4x4 wagon needs to wait awhile if they can.

The new Defender,as we know,is just around the corner as is the LC 200 replacement.

We need to replace our D4 but are hanging out.If a new D4 was available we would have one,but the D5 doesn’t really suit us.Had a good look at it a while ago.Its actually probably getting close to it’s first upgrade.

The Defender is probably too small in the rear, and the 130 a while away.No V6 could be an issue as well.

The new LC will have a new petrol, same turbo engine that runs in some Lexus vehicles,so it will be latest generation, hybrid rumoured as well,so that will be interesting.
The diesel V8 will be around for a while with upgrades.

There is also the latest Patrol, but SWMBO didn’t really like the size of it,it’s huge.

    What to do

Yes, oh the dilemma of replacing the D4.......or not. Looked at my mates new D5, nice car, $120K, no 5 year warranty, lots of very useful features, some (like DPF and AdBlu not so much), resale value when he went to trade his 95000km D4, the LR dealer he bought it from wasn't interested and the trade in value was insulting, looks have grown on me so I can live with it now, some of the engineering and manufacturing has taken a dive (compressed fiber inner panels in cargo area, D4 were at least plastic), not so sure I want another diesel but you have to love the current power/torque output, wheels and tyres (nuff said!!) and so the deliberations go. The D4, well, do the shock absorbers, belts, inlet manifolds, alternator, water pump and other minor things as a mid life make over (130000km) hope that the gearbox holds out as well as the crank bearings and away we go. The Y62 is the only other option at present, but a complex issue to be sure.

There are at least 8 outside the local stealers if anyone wants one,in a variety of colours.

We went there about 6 months ago for another look, and the salesman slipped up,telling us he struggles to sell them to anyone that has had a D3 or 4.

    Issues with All New Disco

This model must be considered a disaster in Australia and if the numbers are similarly low world wide there also .
    Any one know the figures?
I would love to know how many LRA has in stock and at dealers. To promote with a $20K headline there must be lots.
    Regards PhilipA
I would like to know how many other owners have issues with their D5 Disco... I certainly do - lots of intermittent faults-mostly electronic and one electro-mechanical. A DUD car in my opinion. Disappointed in this model after a superb run with my D4 HSE. I cant recommend anyone buying this All New Disco is your want a faultless ownership.
    1. In Touch system every few days needs to have log in retyped. Help Support has failed to return my recent call and complaint. about this
    2. Steering wheel and seat memory position not always activated when unlocked and have taken a seat. I have to touch M1 to get it to reset back to my preferred position from the closed position when last locked up.
    3. Major issue with the ? auto locking brake coming on whilst still mobile - repeat loud banging noise I feel the car very briefing slows. I have been repeated told there is nothing wrong structure wise. Every time mechanic gets in it for test drive it wont happen.Other passengers have noted and commented on the banging rear noise.
    4. Still cant get the fancy trailer / caravan backing system(installed option) to work properly after placing the black diamonds in the correct area of the van and entered in the correct dimension details.
    5. Battery - goes low voltage if I am working on the car eg cleaning etc if doors left open (LED lights) and unlocked for 2-3 hours. Already replaced 1 battery
    6. Some of the GPS settings occasional reset to default

    etc etc
