Probably your A/C compressor's clutch. If you grab the front of the clutch on the inside of the pulley does anything feel a bit loose or can it move in any other direction other than around?
Also I think your post is in the wrong Discovery page.
Hi, my 2014 TD5 makes the weirdest noise coming from the aircon unit. It sounds vaguely like a harmonic sound which changes pitch as the engine revs increase and decrease. It's slowly but surely getting louder. The aircon works perfectly. It's been regassed a few times hoping that would stop the noise but it hasn't. The noise stops when I turn the unit off and starts again when I turn it back on.
The only answer I can come up with is that it may be a bearing. The 2 mechanics I've taken it to just scratch their heads and aren't particularly helpful.
Can anyone add any light to this please.
