Discovery 5 L462 HSE Windscreen Replacement

Hi, First post here, so wish me luck!
My 2019 Discovery L462 needs a new windscreen. I was offered a non genuine screen by my insurance company but I refused it because the fitter couldn't guarantee that all the features of the genuine windscreen (like HUD, Heating, Soundproofing, etc) would apply to the new windscreen.
I am now doing all I can to have a genuine windscreen fitted but one company told me that the ONLY windscreen that would work with a HUD display on the L462 was a genuine LR one. Does anyone out there know?
    Many thanks, Farnarkler

Welcome, that sounds correct with only the genuine screen supporting those options. You may be able to find a Pilkington screen that will work.

The HUD windscreen is a St.Gobain Sekurit brand. It's also the solar-blocking and acoustic windscreen. I suspect there is a coating on the glass in the area where the HUD is projected.

I would be insisting on the genuine article.

I recently had a new genuine LR WS fitted by WS O'Brien. WS OB wanted to fit a non LR screen but I pointed out it that it wasn't acoustic nor solar attenuated as was the existing WS. They got the LR version and fitted it. No dramas with the insurance company.

Hello, I just joined, and my first post, apologies if I'm asking for any info you can't share.
My 2018 HSE Disco has a leaking windscreen, and I understand this is a known issue with Discos. Does anybody experience the same problem? Any advice? And cost?
    Thanks

Yes - had the same problem

Known issue - failure of the sealant or was not sealed properly in first place

    Mine was 2019 MY HSE

Replace under warranty my Rex Gorell Landrover with no problem at all

Leak would only show up in heavy rain parked pointing downhill or on level ground.

    Cheers

My 2019 Se heated windscreen was replaced by Doncaster JLR here in Melbourne a month or so ago. Very well known issue.

    Fragile Windscreen or bad luck?

MY 2022 HSE D300 windscreen with Heads Up Display
I think these windscreens are more fragile than plain ones. I have done 5500km and broke 2 windscreens with gum nut and stone. I waited 4 mths for the first and got it done in Scarborough Perth. They broke the camera in the top windscreen fitting, unknown to me. Calibrated OK and then failed completely after 10km of travel. Another 4 mths arguing as to fault and who would pay. After windscreen fitter came good i drove for 300km and got small stone on very top edge and now cracked in a big U accross w/s.
Will tackle insurance and replacement again soon.

Great to have the HUD but has its problems apparently

The windscreens generally are thinner. Anything hitting near the edge of the screen is almost guaranteed to cause a crack. I have replaced the screen twice in 7 years on my L494, one from a hit in the bottom right corner and the other from a hit on the top edge in front of the passenger, both with in 5cm of the edge. On the other hand, I had a massive branch hit in the centre of the screen at 80kph and there was no damage.
    Cheers,

    Sean

And have you worked out why? Discovery 5 L462 HSE Windscreen Replacement

Centre of windscreen + branch = flex and load spreading.

Closer to the frame - the more rigid the surface and the impact has more shock. Result - broken glass!
