ACC & Cruise Control Problems with bullbar installed

Hi Guys, I have a 2019 D5 HSE SD6, fitted with a ECB bull bar.
Quite frequently I get a dash message, " Forward alert not available above 80 kmh".
Seems the front radar is out of alignment and many efforts by the Dealer and Non Dealers have not been able to fix the problem, apart from suggesting we remove the bull bar and bring front back to original spec.

not sure if anyone else has had the same problem. ????

anyhow just picked the vehicle up from a specialized service company who deals in Audi, Mercs, RR, VW, L/R, etc. and they showed me the scan print noting that the radar is out of alignment.

They have requested if I can get the following info from members. ???

    1. what would be required to revert the D5 back to original. Specifically what parts and estimated labour time. ???

    2. the radar bracket supplied clearly has slotted holes. what method is used in installation to ensure bracket is perpendicular to the vehicle. ?? 100% accuracy is required here not only for operation but also for correct and safe operation.

    3. what is the field of vision ?? are we certain the bullbar, bracket, bolts are not interfering. ???

    4. can anyone provide a document ?? confirming that the perspex cover in front of the radar is suitable and not interfering with it. ???

    5. can we get a photo confirmation from the front of a D5 showing the original (before bullbar) location of the radar. ????.

would appreciate if anyone can answer some or all of the above, or, provide some similar info. ???

You're scaring me, Tom. I have an ECB bullbar on order for my MY20 D5 SE SD6. (ECB has been reluctant to supply it because there are some park assist sensors in the wheel arch trim which they say prohibit fitting of the bullbar, so I am taking a risk here).

Are you saying that the ACC is not working because of the poor design of the bullbar or because of poor installation?

Regarding the requested info (nos. 1 & 5), I would visit your JLR service provider and ask them what is required to remove the bullbar (which was suggested in your first paragraph). I suspect it is a new bumper and labour which they should be able to quote you on. While you are there you could take a photo of the front of a D5 without a bullbar (there will almost certainly be a D5 there).

    ECB bull bar

    Hi Martin,

sorry about late reply. Probably poor installation. Seems like the front radar reads to the right and no one seems to be able to correct this. thus the questions. ??
Probably not installed correctly by the bull bar guys as I would assume u would have to have some knowledge about electronics.

my park sensors work OK, so not a problem there.

Can't seem to find a D5 of my vintage, with no bull bar, so i can photo the front & see where the radar is installed.
Did go to the local LR dealer and looked at a new one, salesman advised they are now installed around the cluster on the internal rear vision mirror. Not sure how accurate this is. ???

    Good luck.

    cheers Tom

Hi Numb Thumbs, thanks for the contact. Hopefully a photo of the front of the D5 showing where the radar is installed.
seems when the bull bar is fitted they move this radar from the original position(where ever that is) to now sit at the lower half of the bull bar.

So I assume the radar software is unable to figure out where it is and make allowances for the shift, thus the faults. ???

anyhow let me know on PM when u have the photo and I can send my email address.

    thanks Tom

L322 radar units mount in a bracket that has vertical and horizontal adjustment screws to allow aim adjustment similar to headlight aim adjustment screws and I suspect the same for any radar unit. They are normally aligned with a device similar to a headlight aiming device. If the mount has been moved then the unit will need to be re-aligned, assuming its view isn't obscured.

I retrofitted a radar unit and a mounting bracket to my L322 and set the aim to my best estimate of where it should be. I subsequently found that while its aim left to right is good, its aim is little too high but being of little consequence, I haven't bothered to R&R the bumper to adjust it.

The radar unit doesn't know where its mounted and its location isn't critical, as indicated by the TDV8 L322's being mounted just a little inwards of the right headlight.

    I also have a 2019 SE SD4 with ACC.
I can't find the radar unit. It maybe visible if I remove the front deflector plate, but its very hard to get off.
As a side note, I've had the car for 3 years, ex L/R. It had its annual service the other day and I had to say that there are absolutely no problems with the vehicle. It was the same last year. I've had L/R's for about 30 years and that's a first.
