    Which D5 - difference between My17/18/19?

    Hi all,
I’m a long-time Subaru driver and making the upgrade to a LR D5 to give me some more space and off-road flexibility). Very excited! I have a 100k drive away budget and am looking at second-hand options. I’ve been advised to go for an SD6 with relatively low mileage (no more than approx 60k), and want some reasonable tech (adaptive cruise, lane detect etc) and sound (Meridien) in the mix. Ideally I’d like a few years warranty as well. Based upon this and the current used market it appears my budget is an MY17/18 (best case 19 if I get lucky on price). HSE’s appear to have the best features and tech automatically built in (as well as Meridien). Is there a notable difference between the MY17/18/19 vehicles that I should be aware of? My better half is reluctant to go for my17 as she says it’s too old (we have an my18 suby) and is worried about resale down the track, but I’m not sure there much difference between the difference years? Any advice from D5 experts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, H

MY19 had a significant power upgrade with the SD6

I had a MY19 HSE which was very good

Worth the extra in my opinion
    Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. Only challenge is MY19 HSE is more likely to be above 100k budget (unless it has lots of mileage)

You may find an SE 2019 with what you want depending upon what options were fitted. My SE has all but the Meridien sound plus locking rear diff and tow assist pack. You may have to hunt.

The SD6 is a fabulous motor to drive. It just lopes along and when you need to accellerate, off it goes. I drive Melbourne to Sydney return regularly and it is an incredibly relaxing drive. The car only changes out of eigth gear if there is 40 km/h road work speed resrtiction. I get under 9 l/100km and don't need to stop to refuel until I get to Sydney.

The 18MY TD6 is also a powerful motor but the 225 kW and 700Nm of the SD6 is a real joy.

    Good luck with the hunt.

Thanks! Appears to be hard to find an SE with Meridien. I was looking at a 2017 HSE with 65k with two year warranty. carsales.com.au

Any thoughts on the MY17 model?

Make sure you avoid the 4 cylinder motor.

The sound system, to me, is simply not at all important. I find the standard one fine for my ears. The car is incredibly quiet inside, though. Maybe take a car with the standard sound for a test drive and take a USB of your preferred music with you.

The motor and major driving options - E-diff, Terrain Response 2, Autonomous Cruise, etc. are way more important to me. Autonomous Cruise takes a little while to get used to. You have to pull out to overtake well before you get to the slow vehicle or you find the car gently slowing down and matching their 80 km/h in a 110 km/h zone. You then have to waste fuel accellerating back to 110 km/h. The Lane Keeping I turned off - it drove me nuts and I can keep in a lane all by myself, thank you... And the setting which makes it hard to exceed the speed limit is a great idea - until you get to a school zone outside the speed limit times and the car slams on the brakes back to 40 km/h. Then you just turn it okf and leave it off so you don't get rear ended.

    Good luck with the hunt.

    Cheers

Agreed....I've gotta say, I'm normally a fan of tech, but this one should be put down, if you can't stay in the lane you shouldn't have a licence. It's a great way to train people not to think though.
