I didn't get the impression that electric steering was optional with the wording about relieving the engine of the load of the hydraulic pump. I recall arguments from the time when power steering was generally being introduced as placing an extra load on the engine.

I've got a Merc with the same technology....button on the dash. It's on when my wife drives....I hate it, so it's off when I drive. :)

Electric steering is going to be standard pretty much on all cars because modern safety and driving aids need to be able to turn the steering wheel - notably park assist, but also crosswind control and similar.

Enjoy driving while you can, because soon you'll just be a passenger!

Total wheel flex is 260mm at front, 310mm at rear. Don't know how that compares with current models.

It also has active dampers but not clear if that's Magneride as per Evoque.

Will be a GREAT car, looks fantastic!

I don't know why they would but it looks like LR have removed the link above.:confused:

The HSE only gets the TDV6, but since the car weighs 420kg less, that get 0 ~ 100kph in 7.9 sec!! The rear eLocker is only available on TDV8 and S/C, but only if you don't spec Park-Assist (presumably if you can push the car enough to need an eLocker, you can park the thing!). There's a host of other new features, design changes etc - it's one good-looking car.

Of more interest to the forum, I also saw a demo of the new off-road features. The LR engineers are saying this is the most capable off-roader LR has ever built, but they're sulking because they doubt anyone will ever use it ($200,000+ for the Vogue!) Most of the following will appear on the 2014 Sport as well, but no one could tell me if the 2015 Disco will get any of it. Moderators note, there may therefore be an argument for moving the RRS section into the Range Rover section, once these models are released.

So offroad:

• Two off-road heights: + 40mm and +75mm (cf +50mm for current models)
• +40 mode doesn't drop until 80kph
• Extended mode still available (but not sure if super-extended still exists)
• 300mm wheel travel
• TR2 comprises auto-detection of terrain - selects modes itself, but can be over-ridden with the rotary select
• 19, 20, 21 and 22" rims only
• My Compomotive 18" rims WONT fit :(

Don't know yet what tyre choices are going to be available, but I'll be measuring one up in November. Then just need to hock the kids (oops, already done that .... ) and place an order. Or wait for the Sport? What to do .....................

And that it did - I used to have an old Audi that idled badly when it was cold, and the power steering was enough to stall it! :D

I thought electric power steering was meant to be more fuel efficient, amongst other things...

I was in Singapore recently and stepped onto a train....it took me a sec to register why I had such a good view of the tracks in front.....:confused:

NO DRIVER....LOL!!!! All fully automated. :)
