Thread: A dilemma - do I order a new 2014 RRS, or buy a 2012 Vogue?

For me it would be wait another 6 months - pick up the RRV 4.4TDV8 with 8 speed and (if you are veryyyyy lucky - e-diff) at $100K, (I've seen them as low as $110k now albeit with 60K) extend the warranty, put in a DBS (Traxide) and 19 inch ATR tyres, you've got a 105l tank standard, add a UHF and you are away!!

Yep TD V8 4.4 pretty hard to beat.

Well, it's a tough choice. I accepted the offer on the RRS today, and he's paid a deposit, so I've got a few months of homework to do.
Rich, fully aware of the depreciation costs of a new car...any new car...although obviously, the more expensive the car, the greater the rate of depreciation. (but hey, I'm 58...do I really need to be sweating this at my age? This is probably the last 'major' car purchase I'm going to make)
Graeme...there's a Vogue I'm looking at, a MY12, with only 11,000km on the clock...he's tricked it up with 22" Kahn wheels/tyres, but it also comes with the original 20" wheels/tyres, asking $140K - okay let's call it $120K at sale, maybe less...but a pretty good 4.4V8 all round for a few years. And as the years go by, the depreciation rate on these vehicles decreases exponentially.
Frankly I'd rather have the new Sport with the 4.4V8 than the 'old' Vogue with the same engine - but the extra cost over the new 3.0 V6 with 215kw and 600nm will be eye-watering - probably $150K at least. I don't think I can/should even contemplate it, much as I'd like to.

(Good grief - a good friend who bought a new Touareg 3.0 diesel a few months ago is encouraging me to buy the new V8 version...at $122K on road, it's very tempting. But it's just not...a Rangie.)
DiscoWeb - yes, I've thought about a new Disco....I just can't bring myself to 'upgrade' to a very heavy, purpose-built off road vehicle that, let's be honest, will only spend a tiny percentage of its time actually doing what it's designed to do. And I'll never need 7 seats. Neither the new RRS nor the 'old' Vogue present that choice.

Well if you don't want to 'upgrade' to a very heavy purpose built off road vehicle like a D4 then maybe your mate is right and a VW might be the go?

They are definitely not very capable off road in comparison, so that at least meets some of your criteria.

As for not needing seven seats, I can understand that, most people I know don't even need five. Mind you considering the D4's two rear seats fold flat I don't think they would cause any inconvenience.

By the way a Vogue weighs more then a HSE D4. As you said its a tough choice good luck deciding.

If argue the d4 is a beautiful vehicle day to day like the sport and rangie. Better options available for when you want to leave the blacktop.

Yeah, I just can't see myself in a VW - having said that, the new Polo GTI I just bought for my wife is a fun little car, but a Touareg...maybe not.
I like the Disco for sure. But I'm still leaning towards the new Sport because of the new technology, much lighter, better handling, better engines etc...and would love the TDV8 in it, but probably well-overpowered for what I need, and nobody knows what difference that extra weight on the front axle will do to the handling and balance compared with the V6.

Thanks Gordon, and thanks for the tip on the fold-flat seats - I had no idea that was only an 'option' - no doubt at extra costs. Don't think the sales guy at Barbagallo even knew about that.
I'd like to wait to see the V8 too....and the eye-watering money they'll want for it.
