    Compressor Failure - 2014 RRS

    Hi Folks

Had my 2014 TDV6 RRS since Sept last year, done about 27k km so far. Fantastic car to drive with tremendous power and handling and economy in the poverty pack version.

The suspension from the get go had intermittent normal height only warnings. At first it was rare but as time went on they became more frequent. Over the past 6 months or so sometimes it would happen nearly on every drive and then it would be OK for a few weeks. The compressor also was clearly audible, maybe a bit noisy. I had an inspection done at 10k km in the early days with engine oil change but nothing picked up on the suspension. Had the first 20k km or annual service done recently where they said they identified an issue with the compressor and replaced it. So now it works, that is the height command button works, but I have a few weird side effects. The suspension now might settle maybe 5mm overnight, not all the time but sometimes. Press the start button and if it has settled it leaps back up into position as if someone has kicked it up the ar...e. A bit funny really. And every now and again when opening the car it sounds like a muffled pipe band is playing somewhere. Goodness knows what that is. Maybe I parked on top of the neighbours cat!

So the compressor, I thought that they might have had it sorted out by now but apparently not so.

    Cheers, Alan

When I was at LRE in the UK a few months ago, the chief instructor voiced some concerns over the compressor overheating due to lack of air flow in the box it's in. We had a look and I suggested a computer fan with appropriate cut in/out. They were going to try it on one of their overland cars. I haven't heard back or had any issues with mine yet, but I may look at it further down the track.

    Cheers

Yep, its working! The settling overnight is most likely due to the air-spring pressures lowering due to the air cooling and opening the door wakes-up the suspension ecu to check if the suspension needs levelling by releasing air from the higher corners.
