Filler up a few days ago and have done some mixed driving around town and trip from Wollongong to Sydney. Just happened to look at teh in car read out and it was 8.4/100. It does read optimistic but even allowing for this I am well pleased. I don't bother checking all that often but do know my usage is down from from last vehicle as I don't seem to remember when I last fuelled.
How is this engine not in more cars ????
Amazes me Ford build it and dont use it more,,
It is the 4.4L and was built specifically for LR at the time. LR have been wanting to delete it replacing it with the lighter, almost same o/p, higher stressed SDV6 but customers keep ordering it.
I understand that the engines along with the SDV6 are going into the smaller F trucks.
Also remember it is technically not a Ford engine - it is a PSA Powertrain engine. PSA Powertrain designed the engines and built them in a joint venture with Ford - Ford UK actually builds the engines as part of the joint venture.
I see as low as 7.9l100 on long trips like Canberra to Melbourne. My daily commute and average 7day a week use is around 9.8 to 10.5. These numbers equate to being almost exactly 1.4 optimistic. At the pump I am getting 9.3 real to 7.9 dash readout. Recently towed a car trailer to the NE of the state, some very hilly country around Scottsdale and ringarooma and returned home here with a 300tdi D1 on the back. In addition to seeing 110kmh up the odd hill, I still avearaged 14.5l/100 up and back, which was 800km.
These engines attached to the 8spd are just amazing !
