A side support to prevent sideways rocking such as I had bolted to the L322's tow hook relieves the receiver of that task.

I wouldn't bolt to the tongue, definitely needs to go into the receiver. The HR towbar I have extends out further than the LR one so I think a Tyre Trek would work for me.

I had to brace the tongue to stop it flexing then the carrier needed to be clamped as well as bolted through the tow-ball hole. I'll keep using it on the L322 now that it's sorted.

Since I got my RRS in May '15 I have been trying to sort out the best off road tyres to put on. As you probably all know the RRS SDV8 Dynamic has the big brake callipers and 18" rims are definitely not doable, in fact 20' rims are the smallest so the Compmotive 18's are not an option. (I purchased with 22"s, standard is 21"s).

I recently went to the Sydney 4WD show and questioned every wheel vendor there. I had 2 positive responses,
ROH wheels and Fuel Wheels. Both said that they had wheels designed for the VW Amarok that could work for the RRS.

ROH had only one style and Fuel had 3 styles. The "Sledge" style from Fuel was the one I liked the best. The rims still did need a little machining / customisation to make them fit onto the RRS axle but Fuel advised they had done it before and it was fine. Fuel directed me to Ali at Northern Beaches Wheels & Tyres in Brookvale. Ali was excellent so I totally recommend calling them if your after the same thing.

On the Fuel rims I put 275/55R20 Nitto Terra Grappler G2 AT's. I think they look great. The total diameter is 31.9"s. If you check GOE's website Gordon says you need the lifted hight sensor rods to fit 31.9" tyres so I was nervous about it but Ali assured me he had done it before and the was no rubbing at all. It's worth noting that the old wheels had a total diameter of 30.4"s so the new wheels also give me 0.65" lift. He was correct, the tyres don't rub anywhere and the spare still fits in boot like it should. They may possibly rub at extreme articulation but I do have the HS rods to give me that extra lift if I'm doing more extreme offroad stuff. Most of what I do now is beach driving to surf and fish so I can 100% confirm I've had no issues with rubbing and you don't need the extra lift.

What I love is that with the new tyres I get 6"s of side wall which is way better that the old wheels that only had 4"s and makes me feel way more comfortable when airing down on the beach. I've found 18psi is perfect for softer NSW beaches like Stockton, Point Plomer, Port Macquarie, Hat Head, Treachery etc etc. The new tyres are a little noisier than the old ones but not annoyingly so, in fact I've driven up to hat head twice on them without any music there and back. The noise is very slight and I had no trouble taking with my wife for the whole trip (lucky me hey^$^%). One more point, the RRS is noticeably softer and higher to ride with the new wheels, very nice indeed.

All up the cost was $4300 for six wheels and tyres including the custom machining on the rims...not bad considering Land Rover wanted $1180 per rim for the OEM 20's! I opted for the extra spare as I'm planning a trip to the Kimberly next year.

I hope this helps others that have had the same challenge / worry as I have. You can do what you need on the 22's with the standard 35R tyres but I was always super worried about rolling a bead or puncturing a sidewall as I'd have to air down to 16psi to prevent wheel spin on the really soft stuff. Now I have a little more margin for error!
I have now fitted the same tyres on older model RRS rims. The older rims have 4 mm less off set than the L494 rims but all is clear. The Nittos are about the same noise level as the Coopers I ran before , perhaps a little more noise, considering they are new. Speedo now only reads 2 kph fast as opposed to 6 before with the OME 22 inch wheels.

just confirming that the OEM black style 22inch rims causes the speedo to be out by 6Kmh slower??

I did say fast so the car is travelling 6 kph slower than what the speedo reads.

    Cam,

Do you have the Brembo brakes? I was told the Raptor's wouldn't fit.

I am really struggling to find some aftermarket 20" rims that will fit.

Can I ask which model RRS rims? I've tried a set, but there was 1mm clearance from the strut, so if I added rubber it would touch, so I didn't get them. They were from a 2011 RRS.

    Would 20" rims from a 2005 RRS fit the L494 with Brembo's?

20" D4 rims aren't quite as wide as RRS rims so will have a little more clearance but will still have more positive offset than the L494's rims.
