Some research that I have done on rim sizes and offsets:
Original rims and tyres in 22" are 275/40-22 on 9.5 rims with +49 Offset (on my RRS)
20" wheels were 255/55-20 on 8.5"rims with +47 offset
This thread here shows that 9.5 x 20 with a +53 offset won't fit on the front.
This site has some useful info on the original fitment wheels and tyres.
It seems some L405s may have had a 9.5x20 rim with a +49 offset that might be an option but they may be thin on the ground.
As others have found a 275/55-20 running on the +47 8.5" rims would seem to be a good compromise. I've also discovered that 285/35-22 was never an option and that explains why my speedo is over 10Km/h fast.

For off-road use the 8.5" would protect the sidewalls and rims better than 9.5". The 2 different 275/55R20 that I've used on my L322's standard 8.5" rims sit well.
Hi Desert Traveller, highly impressed and interested in your wheel carrier. Nice job !
Questions :
- what happens if you open the tailgate while wheel is not dropped down ?
- on your picture, the structure of your wheel carrier seems to be higher that the lower edge of the tailgate. How do you open your tailgate or is the opening condamned ?
- how did the carrier resist multi vibrations during your overlanding ?
Thanks mate !
Nikola
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I thought I'd put it out there that Goodyear are now doing the Wrangler Duratrac in 255/65R19 giving you a 32" tyre with 6.5" of sidewall - this is the tyre size that the L663 Deefer runs.
I'm currently running some 285/50R20's but when these are done I will go back to 19" wheels and these Duratracs.
the common held belief is 19's wont go over the brakes.
There are definitely some RRS out there with 19"rims but unless you have a six cylinder its unlikely the rims will fit Land Rover Range Rover Sport 2014 - Wheel & Tire Sizes, PCD, Offset and Rims specs - Wheel-Size.com
