    SDV6 Oil - Castrol Professional C1 5w-30

    Hi guys,

just another quick post to share info on where you can find C1 5w30 oil.

It took me a few hours to find retailers, but there are some!

Castrol 3375617 Edge Professional C1 5W-30 Engine Oil 20L | Free Shipping | Automotive Superstore

EDGE PROFESSIONAL C1 5W-30 20L CASTROL 3375617 - Truck Spares Truck Parts Accessories - South Coast Truck Spares NSW

I personally bought a 20l drum from Automotivesuperstore - happy with their service (a little more expensive though)

Also remember you will need a drum pump e.g STM 20 Litre ATF Oil Pump

Repco will order in any of the Professional oils if you ask them. They price matched the prices on the web for me.

    OIL Change distance

I am going to do more regular changes. After having my oil tested I was not happy with 6% dilution. I want to suck the oil out on the intermediate changes. Problem is I can't seem to remove the cap from the suction pipe. Has anyone experience with this ?

No oil, regardless of expense or makeup can cope with fuel dilution.

You need to work out why, more frequent oil changes are merely a bandaid.

It is well Known why the dilution happens with all the DPF equipped LR's. Regeneration means more diesel is injected into the exhaust cycle to help heat and burn out the DPF. Regens happen quite frequently more so if longer runs don't happen. LR suggest that using fully syn oil means lubrication still there even with dilution. So work out isn't an issue that can be solved, the smart thing is to use a cheap oil change to increase engine life, me I don't agree with LR that 6% is OK based on the use of Synthetic oils.

Now does anyone know how to get the cap off the suction pipe so I can pump out my oil?

2% is a normal condemnation limit, and I'm aware that it's DPF related, but other vehicle with Regen don't have this issue.
In my book 2% is too high, regardless of what Land Rover says, no oil can cope with fuel dilution

Heaps of vehicles have this issue a quick google search will reveal this. In any case the LR limits are far to high hence my rationale for intermediate change of oil. One good thing I have found out how to get the cap off the suction pipe so now all I need is the vacuum extractor and I can do an easy intermediate change.

Something like this may do the trick

AU Manual 9L Car Oil And Fluid Extractor Pump Automative Oil Changer Vacuum Pump | eBay

Or go to a boat equipment shop to get an oil extraction kit as its usual on an inboard boat to extract the oil from the dip stick tube as you can't drain from the sump plug in the bottom of the bilge.
Something like this, its similar to mine.
