    DPF Issues

Just read this announcement from Toyota Australia who have also had DPF and oil dilution issues.
I think LR need to do this as well.
Apparently you can press the button for a regen when you know you are going for a longer trip.
    See quote below:

"Toyota will shortly announce the addition of a diesel particular filter (DPF) regeneration switch for the Landcruiser Prado and HiLux, as part of a rolling technical change on both models.
CarAdvice can exclusively reveal the change, which comes after a surge in complaints about particulate filter issues from Prado and HiLux owners who primarily drive short distances. Toyota is yet to provide comment regarding the complaints, or provide a specific reason for the change.
A diesel particulate filter works by catching harmful diesel particles, storing them and then burning them off at high temperatures as the filter becomes full. This process requires high exhaust temperatures and can only be actioned when the vehicle is at operating temperature. If a vehicle is primarily driven in and around the city, with limited long-duration driving, the fliter can become clogged, which ultimately leads to a full replacement of the unit being required"

With the VAG cars you have been able to do this for years if you own Ross Tech cable.

In 3 yrs and 35k I’ve never noticed my DPF activate - also have a Volvo fitted with DPF .
But all out trips start with at least 30 km of highway speeds .

My father had a Nissan and it used to eat DPF and regularly go into limp mode .
now has a Corolla - and is very happy !

Our diesel Tojo vans that have DPF filters have a DPF regeneration switch and gauge to indicate when it needs to be done.

The switches are never used, probably because they do heaps of K's,as most vans would,i presume.

The automatic regen process is sufficient in our situation.

So maybe it was a cost cutting exercise to not fit them to the models in question, and they are needed.

Prado would be more susceptible to issues you would think,by the number of them that are doing short school runs.

The 70 series has the switch fitted, standard, as well.
