    Sat Nav update

I noticed in the L320 section somebody mentioned that SAT-NAV updates from landrover.navshop.com were on special. So, I took a look... It has Range Rover Sport - (2014 - 2016) mentioned, on their web site, so I ordered this. I initially thought I was supposed to get something I could install from USB stick, which is what is mentioned in the WSM... however it seems that for my unit, it does indeed take the CD. Mine is the InControl touch, known in Topix as Navigation Center ROW 2 as you can see in the photos below. Anyway , when you buy the update , and generate the key, you get directed to a volvo related site for the instructions. The instructions looked nothing like my unit so I was a bit put off at first, and sent a couple of emails off to confirm I had bought the right thing, neither of which were answered. So, after a week and a bit, the disk turned up in the mail. At first when I inserted the disk nothing happened that I could see, but I had the screen in the Nav mode. After some trial and error, it worked. Seeing as how the instructions did not match my car, I thought I would throw together the below for anyone else with the same system. Sorry for the photos not being in line with the text.

    1. At the Home menu , insert the disk. “Loading disc…” will show for several minutes.

    2. Then the following screen is displayed , press Continue

    3. Then you need to enter the licence key that you generated at landrover.navshop.com.au , and press OK
    [
    4. The next screen is displayed momentarily

    5. Then the screen returns to the home menu as the update is loaded:

    6. If you have this style dash, you see this message, this is normal:

    7. If you stop the car for a while then restart before the update has completed, at first you see this screen:

    8. Then this screen:

    9. Then this one – no need to press Cancel, the screen goes away by itself after a few moments.

    10. And continues with the update.

Once it reaches 100% it will prompt you to re-start the nav – sorry I did not capture this screen, I was driving. It then goes through initializing then will display the new screens.

Can't seem to log onto the site? Is there much difference in the old and new maps?

    It's missing the ".au"

Land Rover Australia - In-car GPS Upgrades for Australia and New Zealand - powered by TomTom® maps

I see that the map version has finally incremented to "V22", V21 was so out of date it wasn't worth getting. I'm just trying to find out what date 22 was released. seems to be reasonably priced with the discount. They used to charge a ridiculous amount for an out of date product (Actually, Ithink that was when whereis was selling the updates).
    Cheers,

Well, I can't find a release date but given it is actually Tomtom that is running the site I would expect it to be quite recent.

    I thought this was interesting:

My Map 22 disk has a copyright date of 2015. I purchased it in early 2017 when I bought the D4. The maps were outdated then. From my experience driving around Melbourne and Sydney 2015 data would seem about right. Road changes over the past few years are not recognised and occasionally the maps think you are travelling over paddocks or through houses!

2015, now 2019, hmmm, how is it that they feel they can charge money for something so out of date? I guess, if they lag behind on the updates for the in car nav systems, they figure people may get so sick of the outdated maps that they actually purchase one of their dedicated devices... yeah I know, call me a cynic.

mind you, V22 may be a hell of an improvement on what is shipped with the car. I've never bothered to check if you can see the date/version that is installed in the car.
    Cheers,

    Sean

I suspect that the current discount is because a more recent version is soon to be released. With the number of major road and expressway upgrades in recent years I wouldn't buy the current version even though discounted, not that either can currently be loaded onto my car's system.

Yes, that had occurred to me too.

Thank god LR are slowly moving with the times on their tech and allowing some degree of user control over the updating of these systems now. Unlike the systems our D4's and your L322 which must be done by the dealer which is expensive and was still very outdated after the update.

Looks like I've found the release dates:

    V22 released 20/06/2016 and....
    V23 released 22/05/2017

It seems they have not yet released a version of V23 that works with JLR systems yet, perhaps that is what is about to come...coming up to two years after the original release date.

BTW my wife is looking at BMW at the moment (I could not keep her in the family). That is an eye opener as what other manufacturers are doing in the cars on this front amazing. JLR is so far behind and their options are expensive for what they offer on the tech side.
    Cheers,

    Sean

I found the same info - i.e. the version for sale was a couple of years old.

Early Nov 2018 I emailed the mob that supplies the updates regarding a new/updated version & was told:

"I would like to inform you that we are expecting the next map update till the end of this year."

Nothing on the website as yet so I also suspected that the discounted price was to lead up to a new version.

Here's a close up of the disk - indeed (c) 2015. While it is old, it is still better than what was on there before. Appearance is slightly different, too.... some more info on what type of building you are driving past (eg, shop icon with a wrapped up box with a bow on it etc) .
