Transmission Service Intervals

I would say 80k is a bit early for the 8spd, unless towing most of its life. I just did mine at 100k, after a particularly arduous and hot towing job it made a buzzing sound on take off, was fine when cooled. Just repeated the same trip, no more issues with new oil and filter.

.... and just a quick, excited speel about the weekends towing Odyssey... it's fun fun fun to blow past a 200series pulling a van up a hill, while you are also pulling a van up a hill...👍. And probably using less fuel doing it too... our average for the return 350km was 17/100..

That's awesome.
Was speaking with a mate today that has a 200 Series and very passionate about it. He averages 15/100 without towing and has less power and torque.

Yeah the lc200 are vastly overrated. This 4.4 and 8 spd is just a magical combination , the engine note at 3900rpm in 3rd gear up a steep hill with 2.9t hanging off the back is just what life is about....❤❤❤ not towing my daily fuel average is as low as 10.4l/100. Highway i have seen 9.4. These are corrected at the pump figures, the dash is almost 1.4 out

They recommend 20K but based on the evidence here I let it go to 40-50K.

I recently drove the Lexus version of the 200 series with the diesel V8 which I believe is around the same price as an SDV8 L494. To be truthful I was shocked how bad it was to drive. Truck like chassis dynamics and an engine that really didn't seem very powerful to me. Also terrible feedback through the steering wheel when hitting small bumps in the road. This car was almost brand new.I could never own one.

Craig, service intervals are 26k. I would not leave it any longer than that.

I get not much over that in Sydney city driving with my V8SC. Towing my 2.7T van can be as low as 18l/100 or as high as 23l/100 depending on my ability to resist passing everything up hill.

Took a while to find more info -

The 8HP transmission takes 8.5L from dry fill (excluding coolers and pipes) and we drain in the region of 5L-6L when removing the sump & filter assembly.
Lifeguard 8 is R225 + VAT / Litre (part no: s671.090.310) and the sump/filter assembly is R1423.15 + VAT
When we do the oil change with the flushing machine we normally use approx. 10 litres to ensure most of the old oil is flushed out.

So yeah depending on oil change procedure it could take 6-10L.

I did the transmission oil on mine tonight. It has 85000KM on the clock, I followed the disco3.co.uk how to linked to in the 8 speed faq Disco 4 Automatic Transmission FAQ - 8 Speed . Just dropped the oil via the drain plugs without drooping the sump or replacing the filter. The oil was fine although had darkened a little, probably a honey colour rather than the clear with a slight green tint of the new lifeguard 8. That is consistent with the results that I was getting on the Disco3 after a change around the 80K mark.
The process on the RRS is very similar to the FAQ which uses a Disco 4 although one of the cats did a nice job of cauterising my elbow when I bumped it while fitting the fill plug.
Lifeguard8 from Sparesbox on fleabay -$65.00 per litre with a 15% discount the other day. I used about 3.8 litres and maybe a tiny bit more tomorrow when I check it cold.
