Just purchased HSE SDV8 - what to look for?

    Hi guys,

Just purchased a 2014 HSE SDV8 with 50,xxx klms and picking up this weekend.
Is there is anything to be mindful of? Any thing to look out for? common issues that stand-out?
It has full service history with LR, 2 keys and all the usual options plus a few extra goodies.

    Cheers

Front suspension can be problematic. Front struts on early models are prone to leakage and the bushes in the lower arms breakdown causing clunking over bumps. Mine has also blown a HID bulb. Don't buy genuine LR, quality bulbs can be bought for 1/2 the price.

Keep an eye out for oil seeping from the wiring harness between the sump and the RH (primary) turbo. If oil is seeping then you could try opening-up the harness which may allow the oil to escape rather than work its way to the turbo electronics. A revised harness is available but the sump has to be removed to fit it and the turbo electronics can be damaged.

Also keep an eye out for oil working its way down the back of the engine from the oil cooler/EGR cooler in the V, which can mistakenly be thought to be from a leaking rear engine seal or the gearbox. The cooler gaskets and/or the o-rings on an oil pipe fitting at the back of the cooler will be the cause - both start leaking at about the same time. The o-rings are not available as LR spare parts (only the pipe section with o-rings fitted) but Viton versions are readily available.

Re front suspension, also see :

Chances are this has already been fixed, and/or it may only apply to full fat RR.

    Enjoy !

There was an issue with the oil sensor wiring. Ask me how I know. Oil seeps up through the loom and then down to the turbo ecu. Range rover knows about this and only fixes when this occurs.

Also I had issues with front brakes, the big discs where under used and after awhile brake pad build up would cause pulsing , Fixed by changing pads to another brand. Also TR spares in Sydney is a place to save considerable on consumables . I also suck my oil out for intermediate change I test the oil every change.

Apart from the oil in turbo, took 3 turbos to fix, the car has been very reliable. Now have 110,000 k's up and am hoping to get to the 300,000 mark.

    Thanks bails,
Drove it home yesterday from Sydney to Melb via Canberra and a few other towns. Dream to drive and had the trip meter down to 7.5l/100. Haven't filled it yet to check accuracy though so can't confirm just yet. Had the dreaded air bag light come on so will have to get on to that otherwise very happy so far.
