I've got an absolute bug-a-bear about grey/black/bitumen-coloured/rainy-day-coloured cars.
For goodness sake, get white? (I think it's cheaper as well, both at acquisition and in maintenance).
My observation is that on a rainy dusk, half the cars will not have put their lights on and about 80% of them will be cars that are hardest to see. I actually started car-counting in one patch of weather like this. The weirdest thing was - a lot of them were cars I knew had auto-headlights, so that feature had been switched off. I'm expecting the insurers to up the rates for 'vanishing colours' at some point soon.
Oddly, one of the most safe colours I've ever owned (I've a white LR-FL2 and a red Honda Jazz) was a Nissan's bright, non-metallic blue. And it was so easy to find in a car-park as well.
But - my LR is white - and I've never regretted it. Just had some minor body-work done (after colliding with a black[!!] car!!!) and the result is 'as new or better' - obviously the paint was easy to match.
Incidentally, my experience is that LR paint is robust. I got my LR saying 'it will get scratched!' - but I've not got anything after kissing the shrubbery that didn't all but wash off.
