    L494 Storage areas

There is a distinct lack of storage spots at the rear of our 2022 year L494.
Has anyone investigated if the side panels in the rear have space behind them that could be utilised if the panels were modified?

If the 2022 is similar to the 2014 of mine there is a huge empty space behind the left panel. I think the 7 seaters have another aircon unit behind there.

Thanks a lot Geedublya: I reckoned there had to be some space like that. I had an L322 and it had a lot of stoarge behind L/H panel but it was made to be opened.
I will investiage further. If I happen to get something clever done with the space I will post again.

Would be interested to know what, if any, fittings / clasps etc you end up using if you do make some sort of hatch. I was intending to do that , but never got around to it... now looking at putting additional battery in there (have the battery but still haven't gotten around to installing) but maybe I will go back to the idea of using it for storage.

I will pursue this issue and advise further. I like my new car but hell not even the back seats lie flat. Storage is disgusting for such a vehicle.

I finally got around to pulling the L/H Luggage area trim.
Remember I was advised by my dealer that this area would be full of electronics. WRONG: Absolutely full of nothing! Open area measures 600mm x 190mm
Now that the panel is in my workshop I will investigate just how I am going to make a neat hatch opening. Great spot to store gloves, a ground sheet and even a snatch strap (for other vehicles!"
I managed to find an under bonnet location for jumper cables.

    Got something done at last

Re the L494 storage area issue I have been looking into:
    I purchased a L/H luggage area panel from a wrecked L494.
Only 20 bucks but it is black whereas mine is brown. No real issue as I just wanted one to cut into which I did.
The plastic panel has so many strengthening ribs etc to make it firm that it is somewhat difficult to do much with.
How was I going to make or adapt hinges and keep it looking even partly reasonable?
I marked an opening and cut it out with my angle grinder. Mr Land Rover would have loved seeing that!
Left with a hole of 440mm by 230mm and the piece I cut out, I pondered on hinges and how to have a look that was anywhere near reasonable.
I hit on the idea of using some webbing and Christmas Tree Clips.
Photos show result. Will get some magnetic catches and job done.
I will probably use this one and put the new one away for the day the car is sold as who looks at the luggage are anyway and I have my storage spot in black and not brown Who cares?
Now I can carry a groundsheet, some overalls etc.
I wonder how many owners would want something like this if could get new panels made with an opening.
If someone comes up with a Mark 2 design I will be interested.
Why the heck did JLR not make something of this large space?
